Alpine all the way, best headunits money can buy!! Check out a cda-9813 on ebay or electronicgiant.com or ikesound.com Power Sellers on E-Bay are just as secure as going to Tweeter and spending top dollar and the other two sites I have had great luck with and have purchased numerous items from. If you replace factory headunit though you will have to have a custom bezzel made for you and they generally cost around 200.00 our Blose factory headunits have a very strange shape to them. Good luck.

I've got alpine. Alpine is by far the best shit. It's the ferrari and lambo of headunits. You're going to end up spending more than $300 though. Rewiring and new speakers.

Question: If I install my own headunit is there a factory amp I am going to have to bypass in order for it to work properly? If so how would I go about doing this.

Yes, get converters and run them through them. Or get new speakers (brings out the clarity of your headunit) instead of the crappy bose and rewire the whole thing.

there is no way to get a headunit that will fit automatically without having to alter the console?

I would go all the way and find a double din HU and custom mount it to the factory location.

I posted this Kenwood one a while ago. That's the one I'd go with.

A custom bezzel is the only way you can make any aftermarket headunit look nice. 200.00 is what you should expect to pay for this and honestly there is no way around it, also the Blose speakers are seperately amped and an aftermarket headunit will make them sound awful unless you rewire them. It would be cheaper and more advantageous to just get new speakers all around and sound quality will be tremendously improved. The mounting depth for the Blose 6 1/2" is 1 1/2" very shallow, you will need to get speakers with a neodymium magnet in them. I recommend Kenwood Excelon 6 1/2" they are very durable and extremely clear and if you get an alpine cda-9813 or 9815 which has v-drive you won't even have use a seperate amp to power them. Basically there is no way to really improve stock stereo for 300.00 more around 1000.00 if you find right deals.
