i-VTEC includes VTC (Variable Timing Control). Basically it's a multi-piece hydraulically-controlled cam sprocket. VTC allows cam timing changes on the fly via altering the cam sprocket's position relative to the camshaft. VTC is Honda's equivalent of Toyota's VVTi, and i-VTEC is their equivalent of Toyota's VVTLi. This system is supposed to extract more low and mid-range torque from their motors.
