is it just me, but around 95 or so the TL's acceleration really drops off? I believe at that speed the car is just shiftin into 4th gear, and it seems like the acceleration really drops off up until about 120 or so where it seems to accelerate fairly well considering the speed. i know the car isn't suppose to accelerate as hard at higher speeds as it does at lower speeds. I have raced a 00' Galant LS V6 from about 80, and the Galant jumps out on me by 1 1/2 car lengths and i don't catch him until 120, granted from 120 it's no contest, but i thought i would have him covered like a blanket at any speed. The same is true for the Diamante LS, except that we raced from lower speeds and i jumped out on him, but around 90 he catches and passes me, he stopped racin at around 115 though, so needless to say i never came back pass him. oh yeah and all cars that i've mention are BONE STOCK. I have a 00' TL

 

in my '99 4-speed 3rd pulls pretty hard all the way until about 125 then it starts to let off.

 

It's due in large part to the fact that 4th and 5th gears in the 2000+ are both overdrive (numerically lower than 1.00:1). If I recall correctly, my 2000 tops out 3rd gear at 100 MPH which would put it right where you're speaking of. 4th gear still pulls pretty well, but you're gonna lose some acceleration since the torque multiplication of the lower (shorter) gears has disappeared. Incidentally, the shift to 4th is where my friend's IS300 starts to come back for the TL.

That is weird because my 99TL pulls pretty hard up to at least 130. I don't know about 130+ because I haven't gone past 130 yet, but someday I will and I'll let you know.

I have a 99 and I noticed that it drops off near the top of 3rd. It was especially noticeable when I raced a Type-R.

 

Haven't really pushed my TL over 110 yet, but even then I've noticed that it dies out at 4th gear. I thought it was something wrong with my car, but it's a common thing.

I noticed that too! When I raced the Integra GSR I felt that the Integra was slightly pulling from 90-110 or so then at 120 I thought I was going to rear end him.

This problem got fixed really quick with the headers, intake and exhaust. I pull hard now at pretty much any gear, minus 5th. Haven't gone up that far.

even w/ header, i still feel like i need more power after 110+mph.It just takes 4ever to go faster.. so i sometimes suspect that maybe that stock muffler is too restrictive... time to save $ for mugen.

Well Poepimp, you act as if your TL is the shiznit in your area. It is funny how people with cars that have more HP want to race cars with less. I smoked a TL for shit to git. You bring that " Tug Loader" to Kansas for some of this premium luxury power, and it's like that!

 

My fault Poepimp, my girl just dummped me. I had to get some anger out. I like the TL's but of course the IS better. You always race your car? I don't. I raced a TL just to see the difference. I mean, the TL has the most power in the class besides the Nissan Max. Haven't got next to one of those yet.

 

SmkaTl, it seems to me as if u act like yo car is the sh!t. Not once did i say i had the fastest car n my area, my shit bone stock. Only an idiot like yoself would think some ignant shit like that, as to your car being faster then everyone else's. u got a damn baby Lex on here talkin shit, holla at me when u get a GS4 or some shit. I simply stated the races i had, and the people i raced i knew, eitha way i wasn't gone back down. As to racin cars with less HP, u name a car in the TL's class of cars with more HP and i'll race it, but i ain't gone be an idiot like yoself and put my car up against a 540 or GS4 or something ridiculous.
As for yo overpriced Corolla, i'll be more than happy to run u, and since u seem so confident, put ya money where ya mouth is. U may say u beat a TL, it wasn't the one i was driving though. So i'll run yo IS150 anyway u want to run them, but leave the less HP excuses at home. I ain't hard to find.

Smkda, i do race my car on occassion. The people i was speakin of was my brotha with the Diamante, we always race when the otha one buys a new car. The otha race was my friend, we were on r way to VA, so it was inevitable to race, it was like 3am just he n I and the road, that was probably the hardest i ever ran my car. I saw 145 a few times and 153 once on that trip.

 

I know you ain't got an IS300 and talkin smack! j/k
