I want to install an intake system on my 2002 tl S. I am comparing three different brands I want to see what he opinion is on each ofthe brands. The first one is the INJEN Intake Rd CAI, next the Comptech Ice box cold air box, lastly the AEM intake CAI. Which one will give the best performance, and most important will I be able to install all of these brands without too much previous experinece under the hood . Since I still have the factory warranty will it be voided if I install one of these systems. Any links or pictues on the install. Thank You

All of them will give around the same gains. The comptech Icebox sounds more like stock, therefore practically no sound. The injen and aem are identical. The injen are alot cheaper too. Check on the other acura site and look up TLS on 19z, he's selling them for like $125 shipped. I've purchased from him in the past and he's a good guy.

Im still doing tons of research on this same subject.. So far AEM seems like the best choice. I've read so many comparisons and tests my eyes are about to bulge out. Anyhoo, It depends on what you're looking for from your CAI. Like best power gain, sound , etc . . . As of now im reading up on how TL-S VTEC engines are reacting to the aem v2. Ill post more info for ya in a bit.

By the way , AEM performance specs are shown on cars that have aftermarket exhausts installed. ( they figure people modding their cars will have exhausts installed , dont ask why ). S

I'm not sure if I remember correctly but I think that on the dyno's... the comptech ice box gives the most gains ... maybe an additional 1 hp over the others ... but if you want sound then you should go with something else

any cai will void the factory warranty on any parts its related to. (motor, tranny. etc.) your bumper to bumper on the rest of the car should be fine.
i would recommend the aem v2 cai. worth every penny. wait, im not so sure they make an aem v2 for the type s yet

Can one of these systems be intalled by a novice. I read the bumper would have to be revomed to install one of these systems.

Installation is very simple. It took me about 45 minutes or so. You don't have to remove the bumper but it'll make it a lot easier. It takes about 10 minuts to remove it.

Do a search. This topic has been covered many times.

only at some dealers, the cai may void your warranty. At Park Ave. Acura, they actually offer all of comptech parts as well as injen CAI...so the installation of these parts will not void your warranty. But again, it all depends on your dealer.

I have a DIY written up on .com. Check the DIY sections.

It's really straightforward. Removing the stock airbox is the hardest part of the procedure, and even that is pretty simple. Just a few bolts is all that's holding it in.

No. CAI systems are so commonplace these days that dealerships usually don't give you trouble for it. There is no way in hell that a CAI would void the transmission warranty; and there's almost no chance of voiding any warranty at all. Any dealership that gives you trouble for having a CAI is full of shit and you should find a new one.

Now if you had a CAI, and sucked up water therefore seizing the motor, then they wouldn't have to do anything for you since the CAI is directly at fault.

I have a few mods on my car, and they usually don't give me any trouble. I had my primary oxygen sensor go out after installing the headers, and that was a 76-dollar part, and installed it myself. Other than that, they've always fixed whatever was wrong.

If you like the comfort and peace of mind that the factory warranty gives you, then don't modify your car. Simple as that.

yeah, i shouldn't have modded my car exactly for that.....the beautiful nurturing piece of mind that when i have ANY problems on my car they'll welcome me into the service dept, give me a choice of only acura loaners, never cause any damage to our cars (like the 3 dents i got a few months ago), be very quick and careful, (not hold the car for 5 weeks for changing my sunroof switch, while i get to pimp around in a civic).......damn, who would mod their cars and jepordize such amazing service? It's not worth it.

"HEY! Acura service dept..."

EDIT: on a happier note, i'd just like to say how excited i am for my first service visit to Park Ave Acura on 11-8. Can't wait...

If your are going for just the sound and look go for a AEM V2 CAI. I currently have AEM V1 CAI and felt that it was a great investment for when i baught it. Great sound at any temperature and idle it gives a "shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" sound that just tells you that "hey I am ready to go." However, seeing how the TL is a very clean looking car and that the performance of the car needs to be "clean" too I would opt for a Comptech Icebox now. The filter box sits in the OEM airbox location sits, but the intake is just behind the lower bumper. Just a cleaner look overall, rather than having a large void in space where your OEM box used to sit, fill it with a Icebox that provides the same performance as a AEM/Injen intake, but has a cleaner, quality look. Either way just have fun modding your car out and remember to take your time and research what your mods are going to be. have fun!!!

NOTHING will void your warranty unless its found, and has to be the cause for whats wrong.
