New car...need help in Atlanta

Sup guys. First time Acura owner here so pardon my ignorance (coming from an S4). Just picked up an 02 TL base with 120k on the odo for $3500. Car drove great first 2 days I had it, but now lo-and-behold the transmission has started to slip

I already posted in the regional forums asking if anyone knows a reputable shop around Atlanta to rebuild the trans (that wont charge an arm and a leg) but haven't had any responses yet.

Until I do hear back I wanted to get some opinions on whether its a fiscally smarter idea to rebuild or swap in a used trans. What are some of the cost benefits of swapping vs rebuilding if I plan on keeping the car for another 3-4 years?

Also digging a bit it seems like some folks here are putting used Accord V6 trans into these cars. Doesn't the Accord trans have the same build quality as the original trans? Or have the newer model Accord trans really been improved that much and more reliable? Also can any transmission shop do the swap or does it require some additional parts/ modifications to make it work?

06-07 accord trans is much better. They had fixed the problems by this point. Haven't really heard any negative feedback from anyone that has swapped one out. Planning on doing this myself in the near future. You may want to try the 3x3 drain and flush just to see if you can squeeze a little more life out of it. Or at least a 1x3.

Thx...do you know if it is simple as finding a good Accord trans from a salvage yard and getting a competent shop to do the swap? Or are there any additional parts/ custom modifications to do this?

Tranny flush I'm told is a waste of money as a P7040 fault code was pulled today at a local shop that quoted me $2400 for the trans to be rebuilt. I think that is ludicrous money esp since I would only get a 6 month warranty. not worth IMO

Thx...I will call both of these shops up tomorrow. Both of these are close to me as well since Im in Cobb Co.

Have you or anyone else had first hand personal experience (good or bad) with either of these shops? Do they send out the trans to get rebuilt or do they do in house?

I know they spend out tranny to get rebuilt.

I have been Drivers Automotive over 5+ for my TL. Also Alben good friend of mine now. I found him through AZ thread a few years ago thk to Phee

What i have got done at Drivers Automotive :
1. 6speed swap
2. Clutch replace
3. Motor mounted upgrade ( XLR8 )
4. Tranny Flush on auto tranny (before my 6speed swap)
5. Rear ingalls camber kit an RSB installment

At Alan Cox i only got them to install DC header on my 97 Accord back in days.

thanks! cheapest quote i've gotten so far. kinda far from me but seems worth the trip. have you or anyone had any personal experience with this guys? quality work? $1700 out the door for a rebuilt trans with an external oil cooler is what i got quoted. does that sound reasonable?

I just did the accord v6 auto swap and now have 1000 miles on it. all you have to do is find one near you and a shop willing to do the work. it does require some work with changing out a few sensors but should take no longer than 20-30 mins to swap sensors. You have to swap the entire oil cooler/warmer filter assembly, range switch, and 3rd and 4th gear pressure switch harness. also since you have a tl p like me you will have to loop the power steering rack which is simple just make sure you get some good clamps. if you have any more questions let me know.

Me and a friend used these guys for our 2ed gen TLs. My friend who owns Sugar Hill Automotive recommended them.
