Smile New 2G Owner

Just picked up a 99 TL AT. got 110k but runs perfect still. Well, almost perfect, but we'll get into that later.
So far I've put an ATLP catback and a CompTech Ice box. Type S rims just went on this past weekend, and looking foward to installing my H&R sport springs that i just got in the mail. Heres a pic.

So the problem I am having, AND yes I DID search... When i step on the gas on the street I expect the car to downshift quickly like a normal AT car. Well what i have been experiencing is just the opposite. When i step on the gas it stays in the same gear for a couple seconds, then downshifts FINALLY and powers through the lower gear.
So far my searching has led me to cleaning the lock up/OD solenoid screen on the top of the tranny as this could cause the reduction in pressure delaying the downshifts. Is my assumption right? Looking into cleaning the screens soon and Im hoping this is gonna help my problem.
Gonna do the 3 drain and fills and finish off with replacing the bypass filter and installing a magnefine filter. So to sum up my plans...
1-drain and fill with HONDA DW Z1 sp? followed by a short drive through the gears
2-remove and clean OD/lockup solenoid screen
3-drain and fill and drive through\ the gears
4-replace bypass filter
5- final drain and fill

About how much AT fluid should i look into purchasing for this project? And just to clarify is it honda dwz1 atf? Gonna call the dealership this week to order... thanks and nice to be here!

Hey Sykou, super nice clean TL, a good low mileage find .....white with lipkit, KoooL.

Use the Honda DW1 fluid which has replaced the old Zl type. A better reformulated synthetic blend for improved shifting and durability. Buy a full case and try to get a discount. Figure on about 10 quarts total for the 3x3 drain & fills.

Good Luck !!!!

Clean ride, Looks spotless. What I would have done for a WDP or Taffeta white with a lip kit.

Nice car. Just to let you know Tafetta White has no clearcoat. It's a base/clear paint. I had a tefetta white 95 Civic and 08 Accord. Get a clay bar, polish, & wax on a cloudy/cool day and have at it. It'll brighten the paint and bring that show room shine back. Again very nice car. As for the switches from the tranny. I wouldn't clean them. Go but some new ones if you can. Cleaning I guess would be better than doing nothing at all. The 4 speed auto in the 99' seem to be less problematic than the early 5speeds from 00-04 models. I had the same H&R springs on my CL-S when I had it 10yrs ago. Gives you a nice drop while still maintaining a nice ride.

Here's a pic of my 03 CL-S on H&R Sports & 18in Volk SE37A's...

Thanks for letting me know for sure. I had a feeling it was, but it was so shiny that i thought it just had to be clearcoated. come to think of it, ive never seen a basecoat/clearcoat nh578 in the shop before lol.
The drop looks sick. exactly what im looking for except hopefully a little higher in the rear. hope to put them in soon

haha. I heard it was pretty rare to find a 99 with a oem lip kit. I was deciding between this one and another fully stock Black one. decided on the white becasue of the lip kit. Guess i made a good choice then huh?

For those of you who have the ATLP exhaust. Anyone else think the exhaust note at around 2k-2.5k cruising throttle is loud? Just going down the street about 25-30mph cruising throttle, the exhaust note is a bit too loud for my liking.... I was thinking of having a resonator installed at the local exhaust shop to help quiet it down.
Anyone else do a similar thing to quiet the drone down?
And thanks for all the compliments! glad to have a nice following of fellow aziners around!mahalo
