Need opinons - lip kit purchase cost issue
Hey guys I'm hoping to receive a few of your opinions to help me in my decision to determine whether buying the oem lip kit is worth it.
First of all I'm in Canada. Problem one right there because its more expensive.
Problem two: shipping to Canada on over sized items is horrible.
Okay, now I would really like to finish off the look of my car with the kit. What I'm trying to decide is if its worth it for ME.
My local dealership can source the complete kit but the front is in NBP. Canadian wholesale on it is 1900 or so I was told and the cost of repainting the front. Original price offered to me was 2250!
I've spoken with a guy from Bellevue Acura in Washington state and they will sell me the kit in my color for 900 USD. Unfortunately shipping could be upwards of 500 bucks plus duties, tax (5%) and conversion (6% extra right now). Once all is said and done the kit shipped to my door would be easily 1700-1800 Canadian.
With that said I have to figure out whether this is a good use of my money. I know many say the kit is a must have but would you pay that much? I plan to keep my car for the next few years so I would enjoy the kit for a while.
I'm really unsure of what to do. I would really appreciate any and all opinions.

1.Calculate the cost of gas from Edmonton to Washington State and also if you want to put that much mileage on your car. If it's cheaper than paying for the shipping/duties that might be an option.
2.You could also do the same with a dealership that is closer to your location. Or maybe you can could ask them to ship it to a US dealership close to Canada and drive across the border to get it installed.
3.Junkyards?
I def think it changes the look of the car and in my opininion is needed, but not at the cost that you have to pay for it though.
Continue to shop around good luck.

I know its like a 13-14 hr drive (@800 mi) each way but if money is the issue you should just drive to the dealer in WA and put it on yourself and drive back....$900 + $221(gas 4 tanks 17 gal @$3.25) + $100(motel & food)==$1221 This way you will save 5-600 bucks if you are that serious about getting this kit. Nice weekend trip. I drive from NY to NC,GA,FL several times a year so if I was going to save that much money for something I really wanted I would have no problem taking that drive.

I would certainly be open to driving down there and have thought about it. The drive is fantastic...in the summer, not so much winter...and it would save me money. Only problem is I'm in university and work on weekends. Makes it difficult until I wait until the semester is over.
Joe from Acura of Bellevue is looking into shipping for me. Awesome guy, real nice and easy to talk with. I'm anxious to see what he comes up with for me because he said he'll do his best to get me a reasonable deal.
03tlcharcol you're in Seattle right? If I did drive down would you want to help me install the kit there?'
I'd like to keep my options open and if I can, pull the trigger on buying the kit before my window closes. It's becoming increasingly difficult to find one.

I put on the rear and sides myself, but I had the dealership do the front b/c if I remember correctly you needed to drill holes and I didn't trust I could do it without messing something up. So I wouldn't mind doing helping with those ones. I also would probably recommend that you put the front lip back at home, since the drive home you might take some rock chips and you wouldn't want to ruin it. Or you could just blue tape the entire front end
I actually got my kit from Ray Laks of Acura in Buffalo, they shipped it to my door and painted for like $900 irrc.

I Paid roughly about 1400 Cad for my kit last year had to piece it together but really I think it was worth it!
If your going to keep the car for awhile I say go for it you won’t regret it and as some have mentioned check out junk yards, craigslist, kijiji.

Cheers cashstar, that sounds like a reasonable price for us Canadians to get the kit. If I can get it for around 1500 to my door I'll pull the damn trigger before it's too late.

Did you end up picking up the kit? How was working with Joe from Acura of Bellevue?
Newbie on the board and the lip kit (along with misc. OEM fixes) are at the top of my repair list, so I'm currently trying to find a friendly and helpful dealership/parts guy who can assist me in my searches.

seriously couldnt have said it any better. there are several sites that sell legit OEM kits for about US$950 to your door painted and ready to go on. wait and save up for it. or just roll around without it. i mean our cars dont look terrible without it. plus if you dont spend money on a kit, you will have money for a new tranny (or warranty) which you will inevitably need to buy eventually.

They are becoming harder to find because they have been discontinued. No pedestal, just a little desperation. As far as those legit OEM kits you speak of, I'd bet most if not all of them are a fiberglass replica, which is much more fragile than the actual OE ones. One accidental bump to a curb and *CRACK*!! My front lip has taken several bumps and other then a few scrapes, it's fully intact.

If you look on ebay you could get a lip kit for about 350.00, but its not oem acura but its the oem spec looks the same i would not pay over 500 bucks for the oem kit not worth it imo but im a cheap ass...
