Redline oil is a Group V oil Only...

downside: its so fucking expensive...

redline also uses the most moylbendium than any other oil, and the polyol ester base stocks are considered the best (and most expensive)

redline's friction (or lack thereof) has shown the highest increase in horsepower in engines (3%)

redline oil is like a high value sports car. not a lot of advertising, and no marketing saturation like other motor oils, and no care for market pricing... just high quality oil for those who can afford it...

Amsoil cost as much as Redline. Where can I find redline?? Do they have Dyno prove that it help increase horses??? Cause I never believe Royal Purple increases torque. WTF Motor oil does not increase any horse power or torque. I thought the only thing great motor oil does is less wear and tear in our engines.

Less wear=less friction/less friction=more power

redline usually costs more afaik and around here... most non chain car shops have them, (as in non autozone/kragen/checker/walmart/etc...) try calling around...

if you run a digital tach you will see with M1 (friends Z), amsoil (my old 2k civic), and redline (my 2k tlp baby) you pickup about 50-100rpm at idle because of the lower friction

I spike my M1 with, you guessed it, Mugen MT-105 moly additive (it's a MoDTC concentrate). I just add a portion of the bottle, only a couple mLs, and it boosts up the moly level nicely. Mobil 1 usually runs between 60 and 80 ppm moly, my last UOA of spiked M1 showed 501 ppm moly (I think Honda oil runs about 300 ppm Mo). An alternative moly additive to consider is Torco MPZ, which reportedly contains moly at over 7000 ppm so you only need a little to boost M1 (or other oils) past even Honda oil levels. I'm going to try MPZ in my next oil change.

I know there's probably no need to go this far with the additives since millions of Hondas do just fine without them but that's just my prerogative. I'm one of those old school moly people.

BTW - More and more oils are using higher amounts of moly these days (even Amsoil will probably using Mo in their oils). Previously, it wasn't used as much because of cost. Now, with the newer, tougher oil specs, Mo is making a comeback.

Sorry for the long post.
Umm...Valvoline Synpower Oil Treatment ($5/quart) if added at 1 oz/quart will boost the moly level typically by about 100ppm without thickening the oil out of grade.

Besides, there is really no need to add more moly to your oil unless you're running an outdated oil. It is the OVERALL oil chemistry that is important, not just one particular additive (i.e. moly).

The problem that I have with Amsoil is that it thickens out of grade due to oxidation. The only way to resolve this problem is to use Lube Control to control oxidation and maintain solvency. Otherwise, the oil will become a 40wt by 10K, which is unacceptable to me.

However, I'd like to note that Amsoil's Grp III XL 5w-20 does very well in 5w-20 apps and doesn't seem to thicken, it is one of the few Grp IIIs that do as well as the Group IV oils.

My vote goes to a good 20wt in this app, either Amsoil XL 5w-20 (pref.) or M1 5w-20.

beats me, according to scangauge it raised the idle rpm for both "unloaded" and "loaded" (i.e. no other accessories running vs A/C/other situations where the idle is bumped)

unloaded about 610 rpm to about 640-660 (seems to depend on god knows what)

loaded about 700-730rpm to about 750-800rpm depending also on god knows what

i assume the idle is set to a range, not an exact number, similar to my d17 powered civic beater...

Considered all aforementioned oils. Currently using Mobil 1 because its the lowest price and overall good value. Amsoil and Redline is expensive and hard to get access to. Thanks for the advice. Always looking for new info on improving the TL's performance
