Navi or Underbody Kit
Just a quick poll....
I have to decide between the NAVI or the underbody kit. My wife is putting the smack down and is only letting me spend so much (I know, I hear the whip crackin too!).
Thanks!

I agree. Go with Nav, and make the dealer throw in the rear splash guards...

If you're buying, definitely get the NAV for the resale value.
If leasing and planning to return after your term, get the kit.

There a a LOT of TL owners wishing they would have gone with the NAV. There is no adding factory NAV after you buy the car.

Just because you live in a large city, get lost often, need to find cash machines all the time, and etc doesn't mean the next guy does. I bought one without navi and guess what? I don't regret it one iota. Actually I feel like I got a fantastic car $2000 cheaper. An even better value! In the past 5 years I can only think of one or two times I've gotten lost. Yes, the navi would have helped me out in those situations! Would $2000 been worth getting out of those two situations? No way!
My answer to your question is get the Navi if you think you are going to use it enough to justify the $2000.

Steveb - Yes the NAV is expensive and some people may not need it, but the question was
Body Kit ($2060) or NAV ($2000)?
The NAV wins because the owner will get more function out of the NAV, the resale will be impacted more by the NAV, and the NAV can only be installed when the car is built.
You have a *VERY* valid point about not "neededing" the NAV, but then again, the body kit is something that is only for looks, and in that respect is not "needed".

And it doesn't work to buy it in a state with a lower sales tax, either. You will usually have to pay the difference when you register.
Of course, you could just move to a state with no sales tax, but that might cost more than the couple thousand you'll save (and the commute would be a bit**).

Sorry, what I was saying is to use my friend's address to register the car in the state(like Oregon) without sale taxes. I am an international student, I don't know whether it works or not. At least, I don't have to pay taxes to the U.S. government.

He could get the Navi and never use it. Can he get rid of it and get his money back? No! Again, the Navi is not for everyone and the same goes for the body kit. Everyone has different driving habits. Not everyone thinks, lives or has the same interest as you.: )

Actually guys, the NAVI only holds about 25% of it's original value after 2 years and 20% after three years according to Kelly Blue Book and MSN Carpoint.
2000 TL with NAVI adds about $500
1999 TL with NAVI adds about $420
I'd bet the body kit adds next to nothing so at least you get some money back out of the Navigation system =)

Navigation all the way !! As somebody pointed out earlier, the body kit can be added later on, but the Navigation has to built into the car from the factory. After-market Navigation systems can be added later on, but they do not have gyro-sensors that will pin-point your location even in an underground parking lot .
I know of a couple of people at my workplace who thought they could definitely do without the NAV since in their estimation, "it was only a cool toy". But after we went out a couple of times from the office (at times in my car), they have been regretting their decision to go the "non-nav" route, and one of them have even traded in his 2000 TL for a TL-s with Navigation (he traded in basically for the Navigation). Remember that you cannot re-trofit the Navigation into a Non-nav car....since, even though Acura mentions the NAV as an option, in reality the TL (& TL-s) comes in 2 distinct models - One with the Nav and one without....even the dash design and fan controls are different in both of these models.

But according to Edmunds, in the 2000 TL, the Navigation adds 1471 dollars, which is more logical.
Additionally, Edmund's shows the following prices for the 2000 model year TL cars:
22,378 (Trade-in Value - without Nav)
23,421 (Private Party Sale - without NAV)
25,159 (Dealer retail).
(In all the above cases, add 1471 dollars for the model equipped with the Navigation).
If you watch the rest of KBB's prices, you will find that it is illogical. Find below KBB's prices:
24,385 (Trade-in value - without NAV)
28,575 (Dealer retail - without NAV)
As you can see, KBB's prices for a used 2000 TL is 28,575 which has no logic since you could get a brand-new 2001 (without NAV) for about 27,700. No dealer would give the trade-in value that KBB claims would be obtainable for the 2000 TL without NAV.
So considering the above points, I think Edmunds is right on, about the value retained by these cars (with or without the NAV), while Carpoint/KBB need to do some more research before publishing these figures.
