Navi security
Say, I've disconnected by battery and reconnected it. My radio displays "code" and requires that I enter in a code, but my navi doesn't do that and it works fine. Is the anti-theft feature of my Navi malfunctioning?
I think the Navi has a back-up battery so that it doesn't lose the settings and addresses stored in it - kind of like a Palm or laptop. If you leave the battery disconnected long enough though it will probably need to be reset.

If you disconnect the battery, neither the radio or the NAV unit ALWAYS need the code re-entered.
I've had only the radio need it, only the NAV need it and then both need it after disconnecting my battery several times throughout the past 2 years.
Even if you unplug the unit for a year, it will still save all the personal information.
I just received an Acura DVD NAV unit from California that I am currently selling. It was disconnected for about 2 months before I received it. I plugged it in and I saw all the previous owner's information and saved addresses.

navi antitheft sucks!
So if the navi doesn't always require the code to be entered after the power has been disconnected, then the antitheft feature is pretty much useless. Someone can steal the unit and hook it up and it would work just fine, well 50% of the time.

Once the cables are disconnected to the NAV unit. You will need the code 100% of the time.
We were only talking about the battery disconnected, not the cables.
Also, if you have a big capacitor somewhere (for an amplifier, for instance), it may store enough energy to keep the Navi alive even after you've disconnected the battery.
Acura3200 is right, once you disconnect the cables, the Navi should require the PIN 100% of the time.

Mine asked for the PIN# one time & the baterry or cables were not disconnected. It just asked for the PIN# & I have had the map screen on everytime except twice. this happen over a year ago & has not did it since .
