navi problem
Sporadically getting a system hard disk error when the car is started. It says to consult Acura. If I turn off the car, re-start it, most of the time the error goes away. Anyone have a similar problem ? Should I just take it to Acura ?
Just like any other computer... hard drives do go bad, your symptoms could be a sign of that. If your under warranty by all means take it to the dealer and have it replaced asap! I have an extra drive for sale if that doesnt work. PM me or email me at mkasim@adelphia.net
Dude:
I'm going through this right now. Before you do anything check your battery terminal and make sure they're clean. If the unit isn't getting a good current it will start sending out error messages and it will reset itself and ask you for the pin (not the pin for the address book, but a security pin like on the radio) After this is done then you can proceed with testing the card. Acura quoted me $1300.00 for a new card but if you have a good warranty your covered.
I don't have my security pin and Acura is researching it for me.

ok, thanks for the tips.
The battery is a few months old, shouldnt be a problem, but I'll double check the connections.
I know the security pin. Im still covered under warranty, so I guess I'll be taking it in.

Took my '99 to the dealer two months go with the same complaint. All summer, maybe once a week or so I'd get the hard disc error message. Of course, they couldn't duplicate the problem on site so nothing was replaced. Also claimed they never heard of this problem. They did reload the software which seems to have worked. Keep us posted on what your dealer says or does.

I'm having the same problem. First I took it to one Acura dealer and they said I need a new PC Card hard drive. $1200 was not what I was willing to spend to see if they were right. I purchased one off ebay for about $300. New hard drive started working fine...for a month. I took my Acura to Jiffy lube and they said my battery was low...some cells were bad. So I let them replace the battery. Once they did that my hard drive did not work again. Jiffy Luge got me to a Acura dealer (different one) that day. The dealer reloaded the hard drive but could not get it working until he did a system check (hold Menu, Map/Guide, Cancel), one he did that it started working for a few days. It than have the same message "No hard drive". One thing I noticed on BOTH hard drives...in the summer when it is very hot (90+) and the car has been sitting in the sun..when I start the car the Navigation systems works for an hour until the car cools down. That tells me its not the hard drive....there must be a contact somewhere that is causing the problem. But where to look?
