Navi Pins

Any Navi experts out there? I just aquired a 2000 TL with Navi....there are Pin numbers installed, but the previous owner does not remember what they are - thinks the kids put them in. How do I drop them? Will disconnecting the battery and re-installing the code work?

I don't think disconnecting the battery will do the trick. You may have to contact the dealer.

I think you need to get the NAVI security code, which the previous owner would have had, and key it in. That should hopefully do it.

OK, there are two PIN's on the Navi: a security code which is needed when you disconnect and reconnect the battery, and two User PIN's to hide away the personal addresses (I guess that makes it three PIN's).

If you've lost the security code, you will not be able to use the Navi at all.

If you're not able to use the Personal Address Book section of the Navi, you need the User PIN.

Here are some suggestions:
  • If you've lost the security code, ask the previous owner for them, or go to an Acura dealer and they'll look it up. (While you're at it, make sure you have the radio security code too).
  • If you've lost the User PIN but have the security code, disconnect all the wires from behind the Navi control unit in the trunk, wait about 5 minutes, then reconnect them. The unit should power up asking you for the security code and all User information should be wiped out.
  • If you don't want to do that, you can switch to User 2 from the PIN pad display (Personal -> User 2). Maybe they haven't locked User 2 out of the system yet. In that case, you'll have access to the User 2 address book, which works the same way as User 1's.
  • If that didn't work, pay the previous owner's kids a visit and bully them into telling you what the PIN is. Threaten them with a broken limb of some sort.*

Hope that helps!

* Just kidding! Don't sue me!

Thanks to all of you. I have the security codes for the Navi and the Radio...I will try disconecting the wires and then try to re-enter the code. Both the personal pins are used and the kids ran off to the army....Thanks!

that probably won't work. The DVD NAV unit that I sold to Binh was disconnected for about 3 months and it still held the codes, addresses, etc. I had the PIN #'s though and cleared the pins to match the security code before I sold it.

Good luck though, hope it works for you.

Grr, that sucks. I wonder if there's something you can do in the secret maintenance pages to clear the nonvolatile memory.

Lightbulb You might find this info useful

If you have the navi security code, that's all you need. It's a permanent override for the user codes. Just enter the setup screen and enter your security code instead of the user code and it will let you change your user code.
