My weekend plans

Hey guys, so weekend is coming up and I plan on doing a couple of things to my car, mostly for maintenance.
1) I plan on changing the oil for the first time since i got the car
2) I bought 1 can of Seafoam (Not asking how to do it, I have heard of a search feature :P)
anywhoo my question is that does it matter which order I do these like should I Seafoam my car before changing the oil? or vice versa?
I dont think it really makes a difference but I figured I better ask.

depends if you're going to put the seafoam inside the crank case. if so, then change the oil afterward

Justn, I don't know if he's aware of the two methods.

Gabru, you can either SeaFoam the oil, or you can SeaFoam the gas/intake. If your going to do the gas/intake method, then the oil change doesn't matter.

However, if your going to SeaFoam the oil, then you will have to do so before the oil change. You would also have to drive ~30-100 miles between putting in the SeaFoam and changing the oil. If you do this, make sure you change the oil when the engine is hot from a ~10 min drive.

crankcase is where the engine oil lives
cleaning it with seafoam effects only the oil and filter change

the MASTER vac port at TB, or thru TB throat, gets intake manifold, intake valves and pistons
1/2 can there is fine

use other half in oil method,,or save for 2nd dose vac port in a month-then good for a year

buy another can and throw in half tank of gas to get injectors clean

use the diy that says `for 03s` but works for all years--has best pics and descriptions

lol yea the person who had it before me....well didn't give the car the best service. I wouldn't know what to do in that situation, with my filter cut open <- probably do exactly that
thanks for all your help but I have a few specific questions:
1)I only have the one can of seafoam, should I split it up evenly and do all 3 methods?
2) since it has been quite a while before my last oil change is it still a good idea to do this now? Or should i wait until my next oil change to do it from the crankcase method?

agree= half can in vac port and half can in 1/4 tank,,(2 oz per gal fuel)

the amount listed on can isnt enough for modern car tank and engine sizes and needs

normally I suggest 1 can in half tank to give you extra cleaning time
Ck home depot for it, less than 5 bucks a can!!!! awesome!!
in a month do another can then good for a year

when ready for your oil change, add 1/2 can and drive 30 minutes
You add it to old oil, not new~
only need a new filter first if doing a longer term heavy cleaning ~200 miles
thats JUST a precaution the TL probably doesnt need, but 3 bucks is nothing for safety in my opinion
If the filter gets full it simply makes the oil bypass the filter and stay in the engine-
so your new filter will get loaded up right away from all the extra old crud

Ok update:
I did the Seafoam in the vac port. drove around
and let it sit for about 10-15 Min.
Then when I started it up it didnt have a problem at all and started right up and then i went for a spirited drive not all that much smoke.
and the CEL light didnt come on. just a bit of smoke then nothing much else.

Did i not wait long enough?
Did the engine not heat up enough? Cuz I was looking at the temps and they didnt rise all that much even keeping the revs up by driving around in D2 and driving around town

I think you were supposed to wait 10-15 minutes then drive

yep you got a little confused
first drive 15 minutes to warm engine--heat is your friend for this
then
Its add seafoam thru MASTER vac port at TB or thru TB throat
now, WAIT 15 minutes so it has `soak time`!!

Start engine and let stabilize,,start driving 2000 rpm till engine sounds better and will cleanly rev to 4000
now drive 5-10 minutes agressivly, 5000rpm max,,,
Done
Add 1 can to half tank gas to get the injectors and fuel system clean too

If the temp guage ever comes up more than 1-2 clicks below half, there is a major problem-stop driving immediatly!!

the TL wont get hot with some hard driving,,its made to run the same temp from climbing mountains at 90 degree and ac on full blast, or around town
