On the way home tonight, while in SS mode, my CEL and VSA light came on. My car wouldn't pass 4K rpm in 3rd gear, but would shift into 4th and 5th. When I exited the freeway the ecu downshifted and went into 1st as I waited at the red light. Green light came and I proceeded to accelerate, shifted into 3rd, but this time i was able to take 3rd up 6K.

When I got home I turned the car off, waited, and turned it back on. My VSA light turned off and CEL stayed on. Then I took the car around the block a few times both in D5 and SS mode and everything was fine. Gears shifted nice and smooth with no slipping.

D5 did not blink nor the gear selector.

Is this a sign of a failing transmission?

Yup... its done and gone. Call the Acura roadside assistance and have them tow it to your dealership for a replacement....

 

Yeah.. looks like the tranny crapped. Sorry man! I've had experiences similar in my previous ACCORD. When did you buy your TLS... as I have an 03 too, and I am worried.

 

I was at the Acura store this morning having a Continental ContiExtreme replaced - but that's another story. My service advisor seemed surprised when I told him that my '03 TLS has not had tranny problems. (Made me feel just great!) He said that Acura Canada has extended the transmission warranty to 160,000 k's because of all of the problems they have had.

 

Well, checked the car this morning and the CEL is still on. Car is driving fine, but I'm goning take it down to the dealer.
