My Tranny is gone...
I have an 03 TL-S with 40K miles. i was driving around town when all of a sudden my car was chirping the tires going into 2nd gear (mind you i was not flooring it). then going into third it would hold at 6000 rpm for a few seconds then shift. it did this untill i got home. the next day i drove it to the honda dealership and it worked fine. then i found out they dont do warranty work on acuras. on my drive home it started doing it again and the cel/vsa/traction lights came on. the nearest acura dealer was about 30 minutes away. so i called TLC and they towed it for me for free to acura. the service manager got me a rental car and told me it will need a new trans and it will be done in a few days.

Mine went out at 30K. I have about 25K miles on my replacement tranny and I keep getting these recall notices in the mail from Acura. Anyone done that yet? They're actually getting pretty pissy about it. "This is the third time we have attempted to contact you." LOL!
Just curious if anyone has gotten the "update" (tranny cooler I believe) and if they've had any problems yet. ??

Side note, my 'new' tranny, with about 1000 miles on it, has been acting up a little, delayed up shifts etc, but hasn't developed a pattern yet....only 24.5K to go before the warranty's up, so I hope if it does go that it'll be soon....

Thanks to all of you guys here for all of your posts in regards to the trannies on TLs. The only sad thing is that I didn't stumble across this site earlier, before I bought my '01 TL back in December '04. Don't get me wrong - I love the car! As I was reading through these tranny posts, I had a feeling that it was only a matter of time before my tranny will go..... and, on Tuesday (@78K miles), it did! No surprise at all - I was prepared (thanks to all of you guys). The "death" was classic, exactly the way you guys have discribed it - first slippage, jerky shifts.... and finally (a week later), I was on my way to the dealer this morning, it downshifted hard from 2nd to 1st, D5 started flashing and the rest of the lights came on and it wouldn't shift up above the 1st anymore... So I limped to the dealer at 25mph, got a loaner and a call a few hours later that it needed a new transmission (what a surprise)! Getting my car back today....
Some questions to you guys:
Anything specific I should check for after a tranny replacement?
How long do you guys think it will last?
thanks

You are going to get a little less performance due to the tamed PCM

Got my car from the dealer last night. Rebuilt tranny put in, new PCM - all under warranty. Seems O'k so far. No change in performace that I can notice, shifting is normal, the "whining" noise from the tranny is gone. We'll see how it will go - time will tell....

Hello everyone.
This is my 1st post on this forum. I found it today while looking for info on Acura TL tranny problems.
Last week I traded in my 01 Corolla with 105,000 miles (fair condition but running good) plus $9000.00 for a 2001 TL 4door with 90457 miles at a Toyota dealership. I also purchased an extended 5yr/100K warranty for it fo another $1500-1$800 (cant rem exactly). payments will be 217.00 a month for 60 months.
ANYWAY, During the test drive I had 2 times when the RMP's went to 6k and the car didnt move while accelerating. Salesman said it was just low tranny oil and they'd top it off when we got back. I wasnt too worried about it at that point. I ended up getting the TL and over the weekend I had the same problem 2 or 3 more times. Yesterday (monday) I started searching the web for info and found this site only to find out this is a common problem. Now i'm starting to get worried. I'm thinking,"I just bought a car thats going to need me to spend a BUNCH more money an a new tranny" Well, after searching this forum I did another search and found this article on another forum http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/...warranty_x.htm
I then found this thread http://www.honda-acura.net/forums/sh...5&page=3&pp=45 and on post #102 found this info

Less than 48 hours after I brought it in, the CL is back on the road with the replacement transmission. According to the service advisor, all the updates to the transmission have been included in the replacement. The service at Ferman Acura has been exemplary. I could not ask for better!
As far as the extended warranty goes, Service Bulletin 02-027 dated 1/21/05 titled Warranty Extension : 3.2TL and 3.2CL Automatic Transmission (supercedes 02-027 dated 9/15/03) states that
ALL 1999-2002 TLs (inc. Type S) and
ALL 2001-2002 CL's (inc. Type S) are covered for 7 years/100K.
The 2003 model year coverage is dependent on the VIN, model and type.
And for all CLs: From VIN 19UYA42...3A00001 thru 19UYA42...005203.
...And where is my VIN? Well, the car was built in 8/02, so it's an early 2003. But not early enough because I am about 3800 after 5203!
So I have less than 5K miles left on my warranty. I guess this means Acura has great confidence in their updated transmission. But the real question is:
Do I?
*****************
I also found another thread somewhere with a long detailed post concerning the TL service bulletins(cant find it now). I printed out all three and headed back to the Toyota dealership.
The person I talked to at the Toyota dealership said that it WOULD be covered under the warranty. A deductable applied though. His responce was, (in his best impression of Mr. Incredible) " I cant tell you to call Mrs. Customer service rep at this #555-5555 and tell her your problem with the car you JUST bought from us. I also cant tell you that she will waive the deductable if you do so." I was quite happy with the information he couldnt tell me and decided to give Mrs customer service rep a call in the morning. Just as I got home the Service rep from the Acura dealership (that I had called and left a message for before heading to the Toyota dealership) called and asked what the problem was. I explained it to him and that I had these printouts about the extended warranty on the )1 3.2 tTL trannies. He told me to bring it in this coming saturday and if it slipped for their tech they would order a new tranny and in a couple of days I could bring in my TL and pickup a loaner car for a day or 2 while they replaced my tranny free of charge.![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
While I'm not happy to find out about this ongoing tranny problem with the Acuras, I'm quite happy with their customer service.
Just thought I'd post the info in case theres another ne wowner out there with the same problem.

Yep, '01 TL', we're all in the same boat with these trannies. Good thing that Honda is standing by to support their product. I was quite happy with my Acura dealer tranny replacement experience also, which compensated for frustration about the tranny ceasing up....
There's a thread on this board:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113324
There might be more posts there now, but last time I checked, there were 98 posts, 37 of which had their tranny replaced at least once!!! And majority of the cars still on their orignal trannies posted there, have a pretty low mileage.... It's just another confirmation of how bad this tranny problem is for these cars.
