Thumbs up my tl vs. 02 maxima

i was leaving the drag strip tonight and on the way home one of the guys who was there in a 02 maxima pulled up beside me on the interstate. we were both going ~85 mph and we both hit it at the same time. we both stayed dead even ( i mean neither of us pulled an inch) up until 127 when i had to shift to 4th. as soon as i hit 4th he immediately put half a car on me but by the time we hit 145 we were both even again not pulling. we both shut it down at about that time because we there was some traffic coming up about 3/4 of a mile in front of us. i was pretty surprised in a good way. we both had a passenger and i have my system in the back. you type s guys should be able to eat their lunch!

This story sounds familiar...Was this the guy you raced? http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....threadid=83274

He ran 14.6@94mph that day (best time) with a 2.19 60ft time. His worst was 14.9@93mph with a 2.3 60ft time. He also ran 14.7 with 300miles on his odometer. His car just has a k & n filter. He also ran up against a GS430 that day that ran a 14.4. 2k2 auto Maxima's are limited to 131ph. I don't get how type-s should be able to eat this car for lunch unless it was modified?

that story sounds the same, but why's he got to make your TL sound GHETTO?

"intake hanging down, no exhaust"... come on...

intake hanging down from the front of the car? wouldnt that mean i was missing a front bumper if you could see that? and also i didnt take an exit. could be the same guy though, never know. all i know is that i would have no chance from a dead stop. starting in third gear is about my only chance against one of those cause third is my best. wasnt even close to a kill but it was fun.

also, we were going about 85 when we started (purposely b/c that is right in the middle of my powerband. and noone was getting good times last night because the track was semi-wet from the rain. everyone was getting sh*tty 60' times. def. didnt see a saleen run a 12.9. track was so slippery s2000 ran a 15.8, and there were a bunch of z28's and mustangs running in the 15's too. the only cars that were getting good times were the dsm's and the s4's that were out there.

I wouldn't worry about it, its just his "Maxima" side talking

TO be honest... I wouldn't even consider a max. no any price, because I'd rather to just have enough power and "look good~"

how would a 5 speed TL fair against the Maxima 2k2, i would think the 5's would be faster than the fours, i know they are 0-60 but what about on the roll and the 1/4 mile?

I like the design of the new Max, it looks good. Its like they brought out the last max and year by year worked on a lil things here and there, then they finally got everything right, and probably wont change anything much until the next major re design. Its a solid design all around. The looks take a lil getting used to, but they are agressive. Also that car can have the balls modded out of it.

IMHO, It seems like the 2k2 Maxima's benefit ALOT from a launch, but from a roll, it would be closer. I assume your talking about a 5speed automatic TL, since well, they don't make them manual :p , I would still put my money on the 2k2 Maxima, simply because the owners at www.maxima.org are running consistant 14.5-14.7 with their stock automagic Max's

bigman, when the 2k Maxima's first came out, I thought they looked weird. Heck I still do but I am now starting to see the aggressive styling with the 2k2 everyone else is talking about since 2k.. ex. Wide stance and low profile.

Dude, I hate to sound like a grandpa (I'm 31 btw), BUT...

I give you 2 thumbs up for actually going to the track & taking some runs, but that's the point of going to the track, to keep the racing somewhere safe.

going well over 120-130 on a highway, next another car also doing the same speed, & having passengers in the car is looking for trouble. There's a ton of things that could happen, the best of which is you get arrested & your car impounded. I'm only saying this b/c we've all read the stories & tragedies, even on this board, and no one want's to hear more of those

keep safe out there!

my friend ran 14.98 a few days ago in his 01 5spd SE maxima, so unless the guy had ALOT of mods on his Maxima there is no way he can run consistent 14.6's
My friend has intake and exhaust too...
