Horrible info for anyone wanting to stay legal in Cali & avoid a fix it ticket ... here's the basics of Cali exhaust/noise law... "Exhaust Noise Limits: California regulations contain a number of sections specifying permissible vehicle noise levels. The Bulletin advises that passenger car exhaust systems [Q9] that comply with the requirements of Section 1036(d)(1), 13 CCR are deemed to comply with Vehicle Code enforcement Sections 27150 and 27151, governing mufflers and exhaust system modifications. [Q10]. The exhaust noise provisions in 1036(d)(1) establish a limit of 95 dB(A) measured 20 inches from the exhaust pipe outlet with the engine operating in neutral, at a specified speed typically between 3000 and 5000 rpm (see regulations for details). [Q9]. Exhaust system modifications are permitted to increase noise above the level of original factory installed systems as long as the 95-decibel limit is not exceeded."
Enforcement Guidelines
Drivers will be cited with vehicles that:
1) are not equipped with a muffler
2) clearly emit an offensive, harsh, excessive noise, or
3) have a clearly defective exhaust systems (holes, leaks, etc.)
You do realize that states "Passenger car", and I was talking about motorcycles with that comment.
And go to any exhaust shop and ask if you can have an exhaust leak after the cat.

... but to agree with you to an extent, it IS hit & miss & in the end its gonna come down to what mood an officer is in & if that type of ticket is something they need to make quota or if they're just jerks in horrible moods lol...

Although you guys worry so much about exhaust setups, no one checks for leaks only to see if it's modified. As long as you are within the db limit you are fine. I myself have an exhaust leak on my resonator, and I'm pretty sure my y pipe is about to get one soon due to me being slammed

db-wise, I wouldn't know.
I just know it got louder lol. I currently don't have rear seats or the sound deadening under the seats, so my car is pretty loud on the inside. I don't even remember how it sounded with the seats in haha. I also don't have a cat, and it is way throatier and is noticeable on start up and 2k rpm

I guess it's just me not being able to see it then lol. I was looking forward to hearing some straight pipe action from you as I've been debating on doing it and save some $ while getting an aggressive WOT growl. By reading through your various posts you've certainly got me interested

^ Running video would be nice but I don't own those fancy GoPros and putting my Full Body DSLR out of the window doesn't look to intelligent for me XD
Give it a Shot man! IMO You are getting the sound it should have come stock with the TL. And its cheap too, Just make sure they don't cut your OEM Pipe! Make them install new flanges so you can go back to stock when you want. I can go back to stock in less than 5 min with this setup.

Lmao, i wouldn't stick my dslr out the window period, especially for rolling shots on the highway! Better yet, the dslr is taking rolling shots of itself as you roll your way on past it lol
Yeah, i surely am getting "bored" of the stock sound. I've got the AEM v2 and my headers are on its way as we speak but that'll have to wait until after I'm done with my 6MT swap on my 99. Once i do get done with that then I'll surely wanna do straight pipe! btw, that sounds fairly simple when you say to put flanges on from what I'm picturing

Yeah the definitive point that I had it with the stock mufflers is when someone say to me "Is it a 4cyl?" when hearing it idle (Or most likely not hearing anything at all). The Straight Pipes give it enough presence and deep not to sound like a 4 banger but not enough loudness to be a problem with the Cops.
I am also in Cali so these mods are obvious No-No´s that's why I HAD to keep it reversible to stock in case I got pull over.

Nice. I like that it has an aggressive tone but isn't too loud either, which is perfect for what I would like and is also cheap which is an absolute plus as well.
I'm over here like a kid in a build-a-bear workshop or something spending money left and right for this build lol

^ Ohh but it does get loud once you WOT it! In fact the REVing video doesn't do it justice, Once you are in Gear the deep awesomeness get released and you will love to pull from the high gears just to hear the rumble. I always try to stay at top gear in city just to hear the exhaust when I pull it (I drive in SS only so I don't get auto-downshifts either).
Also! Don't remove the Stock Resonator or you will have it RASP which is a Royal No Go!
You will love it! Guaranteed it

Man oh man you've got me excited! Do you still have the mid muffler intact as well? And you wouldn't happen to have any underside pics of your exhaust setup would you?
I'm ready to just WOT everywhere i go, esp at a complete stop

I don't have underside pics but basically is:
DC Sport Headers > Stock CAT > Stock Resonator/Stock Mid Muffler > 2.5" Straight Pipes > Welded DC Sport Exhaust Tips.
