Question My new car. I'm now a part of the TL-S Family! Just a few questions.

I've Just bought a Satin Silver TL Type S.

After much deliberation (you've all seen my many questions and worries) I decided this was the car for me. So far I love it.

Thanks to all for helping me out on this one!

A few questions.

1. Any suggestions on what type/brand of leather protection I should apply to the seats?

2. Wax: I want this thing to remain shiny (Love the silver). Any suggestions?

3. Break in: I've read about this and was just wondering. Should I really take it easy for a while? If so, how many miles?

Thanks.

Firstly, welcome to the family and I'm certain that you'll find your ownership experience very rewarding and enjoyable!

Most of the answers to your questions can be found by doing a search for the related topic.

1. Any suggestions on what type/brand of leather protection I should apply to the seats? 303 Leather Protector spray or Meguire's

2. Wax: I want this thing to remain shiny (Love the silver). Any suggestions? ZAINO ZAINO ZAINO!!!!! ASK FOR SAL

3. Break in: I've read about this and was just wondering. Should I really take it easy for a while? If so, how many miles? I did 1,000 miles ....many people have different opinions about this thought. 600 is sufficient

Good Luck!!

1. Zaino makes some leather protection which you may want to try as well ... www.zainobros.com

2. Same as above

3. I'd say if you can, keep it under 3500 rpms and try to vary the rpms constantly .. don't leave it at just 2000 rpms cruising for 50 miles. Once you pass 600 miles you should be ok, but still try to go easy on the car until you pass 1000 miles ... This is assuming you want to keep the car for a long time. If not, then it isn't a big deal about breaking in the car.

If you are looking for leather protection 303! Just remember it isn't a conditioner/cleaner.

Many including I have been using 303 and love it

Lycos, shoot me a PM...I have the info at home for the NW Zaino distributor who is located in Federal Way. He can get you everything you need alot quicker. I use/recommend Lexol for the leather, it is also a popular choice.

By the way, congrats on your purchase and welcome to Team Silver! I thought you were never gonna do it....

1) aerospace 303.
2) Zaino
3) Just don't WOT for the first 600-1000 miles. Vary RPMs just don't floor it. Some people think the break in is important and some don't. The way I figure, it doesn't hurt to baby the car in the beginning! I drive hard so the first thousand miles was tough but I figure if anything I spared the car of a 1000 miles of hard driving (not Abuse).

I checked out the Zaino website. What wax or combination of products is the best for our car?

Lycos -

Congratulations! I thought we lost you after your post on the LA Times tranny story

Good choice on the SSM. I really wanted silver but didn't get it 'cause of the bowling ball trim with the ebony interior. However, after a couple of rains, I'm beginning to question my purchase of Nighthawk Black Pearl.

As for the car care, I haven't used the Zaino wax yet, but I have tried the car wash, leather cleaner, window cleaner, tire gloss and gloss enhancer and can highly recommend them. The FAQ has a good dissertation on how to use Zaino - or check out their website www.zainobros.com which also has detailed instructions.

(Yute, I'd also be interested in the info for the local NW Zaino distributor, although my order arrived fairly promptly from NJ.)

One last thing - after your post regarding the Blose sound system, I did some reading in the Audio and Electronics forum, and I have decided to replace the Bose speakers with Polk DX6 speakers, which fit into the existing speaker locations quite nicely. These speakers have been discontinued, but can be still be found at a few places. Speed & Sound (www.speedsound.com) has them for $109/pair + $12 UPS ground shipping.

Enjoy your new TL-s! I hope to see you cruisin' down I5 sometime.

Happy Zainoing!

The same car I bought just 2 weeks ago! I also love mine!

Now for very stupid questions ... what does "leather protection" do (details beyond the obvious!) & how much of a difference is there really between using it & not?

Thanks for the replies.

BTW I was cruising down the highway today and noticed I was doing 85 mph. Funny, it felt like I was going 60. Hmmm, might be too easy to get into trouble with the State boys!

Hey Mr. Lycos, now that you've done the deal, could you fill me in on the particulars? (Dealership, price, options etc.)

Thanks!

hey I looked up Aerospace 303, and it sounds like this product isn't made for leather. Are you sure Aerospace 303 is what I should get to protect my leather?

Thanks for the help.

Acura of Bellevue (Thanks for the advice). I did consult other dealers but their level of professionalism was suspect. This was a very pleasant dealership experience. Thanks for the advice, it paid off.

Price was $30k even and this included the protection package, so I know I got a really good deal. They also gave me a good trade in deal on my 11 year old car. They were also willing to discuss the price over the phone with absolutely no pressure. The other guys said I had to go in to the dealership (read trap!!).

So far I love the car and since it is a 2003 manufactured in late summer? I assume it is okay, but I will keep up on the transmission issue. I've adjusted the seat so headroom is now okay and I've even come to like the fake black wood.

Thanks to you an all for your great advice. Now to keep this shiny beast clean.

And, egilsrud remember the around $28k price I mentioned earlier in my search. Guess which dealer sent this to me. It was classic bait and switch, another reason I decided on Acura of Bellevue.

Glad to hear that it worked out for you. I think you negotiated well.

I know what you mean about speed - I've noticed that I'm driving a lot faster these days A radar detector might be in my future!

I'll let you know how the Polk DX6 speaker mod works out.

Yeah, I'm very interested in the speakers. Are you having someone do it for you?

No, it's a piece of cake install - thanks to the excellent resources on this site (Southbound, Iggy et al - you guys rock!)

I should get the speakers this week and hopefully install them over the weekend. You can come by and check them out - I don't think I live too far from you.

Be warned, however - the Polk DX6's have been discontinued and most places are out of stock. If you want some you better act quickly.
