My first problem with TL, please help

This is the first problem I had with my TL . I had the engine idle for half hour and I turned it off and turned on again like 10 minutes later My card (engine) was shaking so much and required maintenance light is flashing and I noticed the RPM dropped to 500 which was lower then normal range 800 RPM. I turned the engine off and on again and the problem was gone. my car seems to have more power since this problem. Anyone has any idea what’s wrong with my car.

I don't know if I have the same problem with my car or not but, when I start a warm engine, about 90 % of the time, the engine doesn't feel like it wants run. It idles really low at about 4-500 rpms until I either turn the steering wheel or give it very little gas. Also, when this happens, my engine shakes a lot and feels like its going to stall. Some of my friends also have TL's and their cars DO NOT do that. Even with a warm engine, their cars go to about 1400 rpms, and come down to a normal 800 rpms smoothly. I don't even know what this could be. Dealers say its normal but I know its not. Anyone know what I should do?

Well, the real reason i do it is b/c i live 2 short blocks from the expressway which i take to work. I only have to drive about 500 ft before i have to be full throttle merging on the exp'way. I dont think thats good for the car. I try not to let it idle to long but it varies. I dont sit in the car while it warms up, i wait inside.

Congratulations! You're one of the few people who have witnessed the arrival of HORSEPOWER to your car! That little shake and rattle was in fact HORSEPOWER coming down from the heavens in a thunderbolt and entering your car. When HORSEPOWER saturates your engine block, it temporarily overpowers the stability controls and your engine shudders a little, but it's OK, it's just HORSEPOWER! Your car is now stronger.

Many people have tried various methods of invoking HORSEPOWER to come to their vehicle. Some have tried luring HORSEPOWER with day-glo stickers, others use Altezza lights or spoilers the size of Brooklyn, but none have witnessed the arrival of HORSEPOWER like you did! Be thankful and stand in awe of your newfound HORSEPOWER!

... actually, I have no idea what happened, but hey, it's fun to pretend

What Octane number gas do you use? I had the same problem when I was using 94. When I switched back to 92, the problem was completely gone. Gas with Octane number 94 has a higher vapour pressure than 92, meaning that it has a higher probability to cause a vapour lock in the engine - hence the vibration (and difficulty in starting a warm engine).

Note: In Canada, any gas with Octane number 91 or higher is considered as "Premium", which the TL requires.

Yes i have been using 94 all the time. I thought 94 is more pure and gives more power.

91 is what Honda recommends and that's what I put in......I've used 94 and the engine doesn't perform any better, so why should I pay for the extra 3 ratings of octane? BTW, the octane number is the resistance to enigine "knocking"....putting in a lower octane gives lower performance, I'm not sure if the opposite is true.
