Talking My First Oil Change !

Well just did my first oil change...
If you're wondering what kind of oil I used...
I used the Castrol GTX 5W-20 (gray cap)...I didn't think they'd have it...but went to the nearby Kragen and sure enough it said "new grade" and they had a case of the 5w-20 sittin' right there....
Well anyway...I figure I"ll use the case up and switch to Synthetic at around 10,000 miles or so...

Cool

Hmm... I would think most TLS owners will get their first oil changes from the dealer right? Since it is FREE?? Anyway, I just got mine yesterday including the windows recall. And I got a free wash too.

Yeah, oil changes are free like navi updates are free. Everything's free when you're buying the car, then they suddenly forget all about it.

What free oil change? Did I miss something at Steven's Creek Acura?

Why do you want to wait until 10,000 miles for synthetic??? What is the issue?

Stevens Creek didn't offer me a free oil change, either.

I read your Fiero page in your signature and had to chuckle - that took me back some years.

What really made me laugh, though, was this passage in "My Favorite Roads":

I-280, San Jose to San Francisco
The fastest freeway I have ever been on. It's now officially 65, but the average speed is always 70, and there is always some BMW or Porsche passing you at around 85. I've never seen a cop there, but I hear there is one who is ruthless. Actually, I recently heard that this stretch of road is the most ticketed per mile in the entire state. Strange, though, seeing that I hardly ever see people pulled over, especially considering how fast they are going.

Man, you should come to Dallas - on the Tollroad the traffic moves at 75 in the right lane, and the rest of us go 80-90. LBJ moves 70-80 as well, at least when it's not bumper-to-bumper rush hour...

Exclamation

I am probably going to start using Mobil 1 synthetic oil. I asked the service writer at my Acura dealer and he recommended mobile 1 and suggested I leave the original factory oil in and then do my first oil change around 7k or so.

I have about 4250 miles on my car now...why wait till 10,000? dunno really...just want the seals to set properly and all that stuff...I may put it in around 7k miles...might as well use the oil I bought I didn't want to drive 60 miles to my dealer for a free oil change...besides...I took my car in for the seatbelt and window recalls...and they were so proud that they washed my car for me...but they shouldn't have bothered....
they wash my car...I find scratches on my trunk...and the guy who washed my cars leaves his sweat all over my seat...oh man was I pissed...had his arse come over there and clean it again...

Your "seals" (actually the rings) are already set. Use what you want. I personally do not plan to use Castrol, nor 5w20.
