Post My first kill

Well, I'm not really one of those racing guys, but now that I have my TLS, maybe I'll become one. I wasn't even looking, but I got my first kill yesterday.

I went by the EZ Tag store yesterday to get a new tollroad tag for my car, and as I was leaving I ended up next to this Chevy Impala. It wasn't even the good Impala (the 94-96 models which would smoke any of our butts), but a new LS.

I'm not even paying attention to the guy, and I take off pretty aggressively like I usually do. Well, he guns it trying to keep up with me. So, I punch it a little harder, and then he punches a little harder, so then I drop the hammer and he floors it. Only trick was that I am still breaking the car in and didn't want to go over 5k, so I popped it into SS and shifted it right at 5k. We were only able to go about 1/8 of a mile until we hit traffic, but I was a car length ahead of him.

BTW, I looked up the specs on the new Impala - 3.8L, 200hp, 225 ft/lbs, 3400 lbs. A TL could have taken him. If I hadn't been breaking in my TLS, he wouldn't have even been close.

Anyway, I guess it's more of a baby kill, but now I am just drooling to get my car out of the break-in period so I can start pushing it. This could be fun!

Cool

It's even more fun to "smoke" someone who doesn't think you can. I love the looks on their faces (as seen thru my rear view mirror) as they try to figure out what just blew them off! So far, I have blasted every Lexus except the GS400 and even that is very close. I love blowing off the BMW's and Benzes. Of course, I know that there are the M's and E55's out there, but they are not that much faster for twice the price! Rock on

As far as the Impala SS ('94-'96):

They were consistenly rated at 7.0 seconds in the 0/60 w/ 14.5 quarter mile times -- now, off the line, it'd be back and forth between you and the SS as to who was ahead of who; but come our 4th gear in the TL-S, you can kiss that SS "buh-bye" as he eats you for lunch!

If I'm not mistaken, the 94-96 Impala SS were a slightly detuned version of police squad cars.

Off the line, it's hard to dust a rwd Chevy small block V-8, i.e., humongous torque and weight shifting to rear/drive wheels.

Anyways, I think we all like the TL-S for it's more refined and "controlled" power.

A guy here at work has a 94 Impala SS. I think it could probably take the TLS off the line. Of course, when it comes to luxury, refinement, and handling the TL takes it.

Stock, they get 260 hp, but with something like 330 ft/lbs. of torque it gets moving very quickly for a car its size. It is about 700 lbs heavier than the TLS, so that might help out a little. Maybe I'll see if the guy here wants to race it sometime.

Chinaman38 - I don't get down to the Sugarland area much anymore. I used to work at Schlumberger, so I drove down your way every day. I live out 290 and work in the Jersey Village area. Maybe I'll see you around sometime.

at the track, a stock to lightly mod'd impala ss's run 15.2-15.7 in the qt. 0-60 in the 7's. the 2000+ impala ls w/ the 3.8L runs about the same. a tl 5A or a tls will handle them.

Doesn't the SS have the LS-1 Vette engine in it? I heard that there are relatively easy ways to re-chip the ECU to put out the same hp in the Firebird/Camaro or the Vette, any truth to that?

Yes, the SS does have the Vette engine in it. And yes it's easy to chip it to get more horsepower out of it.

My First Kill (without even trying)

Now let me state my disclaimer before I get flamed. I am posting this mainly because of the humor of the situation, not because the competition was worthy…..

I was going to lunch with some co-workers of mine today. I was stuck at a traffic light with a 18 wheeler on my left and a "modded" neon (with stereo blasting) on my right. My co-worker informs me that I needed to make a left at the next light so I better be prepared to "gun it" when the light turns green. The light turns green, I hit the gas (not all the way mind you) and the neon attempts to keep up. I see a glimpse of his smug expression in my mirror because he thinks he is actually keeping up. Unfortunately from him, he only got close enough to see the "Type-S" on my rear bumper, before I disappeared into the sunset. As we pulled into the parking lot of our lunch spot, my co-worker asked "were you really trying to race him". My Reply was, "Not really, I didn’t even use SS"

BTW, he was alone and my co-worker weighs about 260 pounds

Fine that you like your victims to see the Type-S as you blow by them. I'm more stealth in my approach in that I took everything off my rear deck but the "A". The Service Manager told me that all badges were glued on and could be removed except the "A", which, if taken off, would leave two holes into the trunk.

I left the "A" on. Although I love burning anybody off the line, I don't want the last thing they see to be two "A" holes blowing by them!
