My First Honda, a $700 '03 3.2TL Type-S Story, starring Tara Lynne

So I guess to answer your question, the A-Spec bodykit, the rest of the Saber Type-S rebadge, and an inch drop, since everyone can't stop begging me to trick my "nice" car out.

Hey Tyeira, It's looking really good; any plans for paint matching the bumper/fender?
May want to be proactive with some other mechanical/maintenance work (brake system, cooling system, various suspension components) all these items can be found pretty inexpensively on rockauto or the oem parts sites.

Literally the only mechanical issue is the mounts (because I basically did everything else.) Suspension can kinda wait (I got that ready too.)
Obviously I gotta paint it, it's an eyesore.

Okay, let's show off some more work, and update some more:
We got the gold Saber badges on the way from Japan, along with a rare Honda keychain from Thailand that fits the JDM mood of the car. But this is what we did today, for starters:
9/24/2020 I wanted to tone down some of the chrome on the car, so the outer edge of the grille got painted A-Spec style, and I repainted the front Honda badge gold until I get an actual gold badge from the tailgate panel of a 1st Gen Honda Pilot. Looks good, but I gotta redo the bottom lip.
More updates this weekend.

So, for those following this saga, it's been a crazy past couple weeks.
Tore up a rim Sunday, had to get replacement wheels, and they're off a Toyota Solara 😑 They look good, but they're covered in Plastidip and the hub bores need to be machined out a bit more to fit the middle of the hub (since I can't shave the wheel hubs down for a flush fitment.)
Oh, and I guess I now have a USDM Honda Saber Type-S as of today 🙃
9/27/2020 Just bought these tires two weeks ago, and already ran a curb 😑
9/28/2020 The damage done to the stock wheel.
9/29/2020 The Solara SLE wheels with black Plastidip all over them
9/29/2020 Starting to peel this, wish me luck.
9/29/2020 Finished product with one wheel.
9/29/2020 That right rear doesn't wanna come off, but I like how these look. I just want them to sit flush with the rotor and hub without modification 😔
10/1/2020 She's a Saber now 😂

Not to be a downer, but did you check all the work needed to swap it out? It's a LOT of work; and I was under the impression you didn't want to even swap an AV6; this is far more work (and money) than that.
rootin' for ya either way!

Yes, actually. I've been on these forums researching and compiling a parts list for a while now. I mean, everything has to come out in the AV6 automatic swap anyway (motor has to be gone through,) so why not just build a manual Honda in the process to eliminate any issues whatsoever?
I think the only thing I may have trouble finding is the crankshaft sensor... besides that, I've got the transmission itself and can pretty much find most of the other stuff.

...honey, the only thing that's Accord 6MT is the transmission itself. The rest are gonna be CLS6 pieces.

You probably already know & researched this; however, keep in mind that if you try and run the CL-S6 ecu alone, with that Accord manual transmission, said ecu may throw codes because it will be looking for the transmission side crank sensor that is exclusive to the CL-S six-speed platform.

I asked several times over if this transmission would be possible to use, and was told it could be used. If I need to, I can take this transmission back and find the proper one.

Interesting. Some sources are saying the stock ECU works, others are saying it needs to be swapped. I may have to go with a different ECU altogether, but I also may have to actually just find a CLS6 transmission.

OR
a CL-S6 clutch case (#1 on the 1st link below) and transmission crank sensor (#13 on the 2nd link below) to transfer over to the Accord manual transmission:
https://www.acuraoemparts.com/v-2003...clutch-housing
https://www.acuraoemparts.com/v-2003...clutch-release
In addition, you will need to convert your automatic J32A2 engine, in your 2G TL, to make it six speed compatible:
front cam gear; front head cam backing plate and cam sensors & sub harness; timing belt drive pulley and crank sensor & sub harness and stopper plate.

If you plan on running the CL-S six speed ECU you either need a CL-S6 manual transmission

Welp, now I actually have two reasons to take it back then 🙃 I was debating this morning on returning it so that I didn't have to replace the casing as a whole.
I knew about the cams, pulley, and sensors (timing has to be done anyway, I have no clue when it was done, so that's all included in my timing.)
It was the closest one (and cheapest 6MT) I could find, but I may have leads on an actual CLS6 transmission. I'll see if I can work something out between now and next week to get an actual CLS6 transmission.
#64
You may have to research further to confirm this; however, you may be able to use the Accord 6-speed by employing a standalone AEM ECU, which one, though, I'm not sure.
Good luck in your endeavor.

Good thing it came with a warranty and a return policy 🤷🏿♀️

In addition, keep in mind that if you use the CL-S6 trans. try and procure #8 on the link below because you'll need it as well.
As you'll find, some parts are now 'discontinued' for the six speed platform, that's why, when planning on this 'swap', it's pretty much a necessity to find or purchase a parts car that has all you need.

I'm trying here, it's just been a long road. But at least I'm now closer than ever, the hard parts are over.

Welp, I found someone locally with an actual CLS6 transmission... granted, that's a three hour drive, he cut me a deal I can't refuse. So I'm good with knowing I go get that next week, and will return the Accord one. 😏

I wouldn't say I walked away from it... I'll say it's on hold.
The original transmission, no matter how much everyone is convincing me it will fail, just will not give up. It's like this car knows something I don't about that original transmission. At this moment, I couldn't do the swap if I wanted to, because she's now the only car I have. I've also had things unrelated to the transmission I had to replace, such as the passenger axle, front strut, wheel hub, and control arm.
I wanna continue with it, but I'm kinda hesitant because I bought this car to have a nice Old Lady Cruiser™️. Plus, I think I have another car I'm about to bring home

Update
Okay, so I last left off wanting to do a manual swap... apparently bigger future plans have taken hold (see also: an entire CLS6 in my future.)
But I know you're all wondering how ol' Tara Lynne is holding up.
When y'all last saw her, she looked like this:
So I snooped around and came across two parts yards, just to add some minor exterior pieces to Tara. Welp, good thing I had a decent bumper to replace this with in the car already, because I came home to see this:
So, since I had to end up replacing the rear bumper, Tara Lynne now looks like this:
