My climate control system has a demon in it :-(

2000 TL-P

There are a few symptoms that make me think my climate control is going to sh*t.

1. I first noticed the a/c sounding like it clicks on and off. About 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off. When the a/c is off, the on off sound goes away.

2. My gf borrowed my car and said there was water dripping from under the dash. It rained REAL hard that day, so I thought it might be related to that. It didn't rain at all, and I still noticed moisture on the carpet under the dash.

3. A week or so later, it had gotten chilly one night and my gf was cold. I wanted to turn the heat on for a moment to warm it up in the car...SURPRISE...no heat. Turned it up to 90, FULL AUTO, different fan levels, not one drop of heat.

4. The last straw...today, I noticed the fan was blowing intermittently, and then I turned it off, and guess what? It KEPT BLOWING! Why me?

5. Also, the light in the clock is off. I don't know if this means anything or not, but I thought maybe its relevant.

I'm HOPING this is something simple like a fuse, or maybe something I can get from the junkyard and replace myself, or something that is simple for the dealer to fix, but hey...who knows. If any of you all have any clues, I'd appreciate it.

oh yeah.. the only reason why i got it replaced by my insurance co is because my car was in an accident and they had to replace the cruise control and AC motor and stuff... and they forgot to check out the motor which is suppose to give out heat and so they replaced it...

I had the same problem with the fan that kept blowing even when I turned the AC unit off. They ended up replacing the whole AC unit. I have no clue how much it cost though.

A common problem is the fan transistor and fan blower. Both parts can be ordered through wwww.sonsacura.com for about $100 shipped, new.

Is there any way I can check those things? Any clues about water dripping into the cabin?

Is it cold water? Or hot water? If its cold, than its just condensation. If warm, than you have bigger problems. If you sit down on the passenger side, look above your feet, there is a plug there. The plug there connects to the transistor and fan.

With the Fan/AC on, wiggle those wires down there and see if it makes a difference.

I havent learned a particular way to single the transistor and fan out, but reading through archives and other experiences like mine, your own, and others, I went and ordered those parts. I will know in a few days.

The water is cold, so maybe it is just condensation. I will check the transistor and fan when I get a moment.

Thanks for the insight...does your car have the same exact issues?

Sounds like we have the same exact issue, except mine was never intermittant. Just quit working!

What exactly is yours doing? I have fans going for no reason, AND no heat.

8/23 UPDATE: I noticed a sound when I went around left hand turns, sounded kind of like bubbling water or something, but could never tell where it was coming from. This morning, I went arond a bend, and happened to look down at the passenger side footwell, and there was water dripping (almost pouring) out from somewhere under the dash. The fans haven't been staying on lately, but maybe that water source had soaked the fan controller....where could that be coming from???

I just replaced the fan blower and fan transistor. The blower had a burnt terminal as well as the plug that was plugged in it. I tried to clean it off with some battery cleaner. It was an improvement.

Both items were easily replaceable. While I was down there, I replaced both of my cabin filters as well. Took me about 45 minutes for everything.

I now have working air conditioning.

This maybe the automatic climate control unit which is nearly a $200 fix (if doing it yourself), or it can be the electronic valve that controls the amount of water into the heater core.

Both are tough to replace in my opinion.

That could be it...that might explain the water that almost flows into the footwells at certain times. I'm trying to avoid the damn dealer, but it seems inevitable. Damn

Try doing this.

1) When coolant flows into the heater core, there is an inlet pipe. At the same time, there is an EXIT pipe. This is so all the fluid circulates through engine. It would be a P.I.T.A. if the leak was occuring in the inlet/outlet of the heater core.

OR

2) Look by the blower motor/transistor underneath the heater box, where the 2 white plugs connect. There is a flimsy black plastic tube. Condensation water flows through this pipe. This is the water that drains on the pavement as your car remains still. If this tube is not secured, it will leak. This would be an easy fix. Just secure it if loose and be on your way. -Hope any of this helps.

I'm going to bump an old thread, but its my thread so can I do that? Anyway, its the middle of January and I still have no heat. I haven't had the problem checked yet due to various financial issues...ANYWAY...I noticed the car has started overheating at various times. Once, I was at a KFC and waiting for my food to come to the window, I looked down and the needle was 3/4 of the way up. I waited and watched, and drove around in the parking lot, and it actually went all the way up. I parked and looked under the car, and saw coolant leaking....it was night and I couldn't see where it was coming from, but it was from somewhere under there... next, I was waiting picking up a friend from work, first thing in the morning, and I was again waiting outside and I noticed it over heating. I shut the car off and waited till she came outside, started and it ran perfectly.

Could this be someting as simple as a thermostat or low coolant? Thank you for the help...
