Center console/headunit

I wanted to hardwire my cassette adapter to my ipod from the headunit to come up through the cup holders. I was able to achieve this and I can get the wood grain side panels off easily.

I was not able to get anything off though. My question is can I get the area in red off? Is it just a cover or does the whole headunit come off? I was hoping to just get the black cover piece off.

I also was able to drop some screws and knobs where the arrow is so I need to get the yellow area off. I couldn't find much luck getting this off as well

How much of a pain is that? I might just forget that

How much of a pain is taking the yellow area out? I need to do that.

I can't find a DIY that shows anything on this. I feel like I keep unscrewing screws but I'm only screwing myself heh.

Sorry but I've never had that section apart. Maybe fsttyms1 can shed some light on the subject.

its not that much of a pain, but may i suggest if your going to take all the apart anyways why not use a blitzsafe or another type to hardwire your ipod. it will blow the sound quality of the tape adapter out of the water.

but here use this DIY:

Bob_F - Thank you that is a great guide. I will give this a shot within the next day or two. Anyone have any ideas what I could get sidetracked into doing with all these pieces apart? Haha. I wanted to hardwire the ipod cord and I think that is a pretty cool thing and its cheap! I'm pretty new with all of this

I have a tape player adapter (like you) in my brother's Prelude right now and it sucks. A lot better than the FM transmitters, but the direct wire adapters have great sound quality.

i remember when i had to take my HU out of my 99, it was a PITA real bad, and as for removing that yellow part, it was actually easier than my stereo lol. maybe its because my screws were stripped.

No, it's not just you. It is a PITA if you're just trying to figure it out on your own and don't have a step by step guide like provided. When you know what to do, it's not really that hard it's just when you are trying to do it when you don't really know what you're doing.

Isn't that the truth haha.

So there is no way to remove just the black plastic off the front of the HU?

Also are there any other cheap little tasks I can dig my hands into with these covers off?
