Talking My 99 Chrome Shift Plate

I finally did my 99 shift plate. It turned out perfect!!!!! It took all of 10 minutes to do. Im telling you guys this is an easy mod for almost no money if you have a 99 and have paint thinner. I want to thank NSXNEXT for his example. He inspired me to do this .

Only on the 99 can you remove the overlay. The 00 thru 03 look the same as the 99 but it is not chrome underneath .

Has anyone had their shiftplate like this for a prolonged period of time...Does it seem to scrath easily? This looks like a nice mod, but I am concerned that it worked become scratched too easily.

This means 99 TLers have something we(00-02) don't, and we have something they don't, like 5 SP tranny.

Looks Great!!

Its real simple. All you have to do is pop off the plastic around the shift plate . You will have to unscrew your shift knob and just pop off the shift plate . Just a little pressure and it will pop off. I just used the paint thinner outside . I let it sit for 10 minutes or so and the mostly all of the outer layer came off with hot water. Nice and chromey

Let me get this straight..Just screw off the Shift Knob and then pop off the shift plate...Do you need to pop off tabs or something..When I was looking at it, it didn't seem that easy..Sorry for all the questions..Thanks for the help....

It really is easy unscrew your shift knob first Then pop off the plastic around the shift plate . Once tha is compleate you can just pop off the shift plate. Once you get the plastic around the shift plate off it should look like this

Can we just buy a '99 plate and do this, and put it on our '00 model? If so, any idea how much one costs?

Thanks

the '99 plate is slotted differently from the later models. You will lose the ability to shift into 1st gear.

After you use the paint thinner to strip it. What do you use to make it chrome. Is there a chrome paint or the chrome is right under the stock finish???

The 99 shift plate is plastic chrome plated underneath the gray coating.

Its only on 99 TLs, you use paint remover to take off the silver lay.
