More tranny info

** CHANGE trans fluid at 15K *** ......

I called several dealers in the SF Bay area and it seems that the tranny problems are very isolated and definitely not the norm.

I contacted the service managers from the dealers as well as service advisors and this is what they said:

Prestige Acura
-didn't have any TLS tranny replacements, couple of flushes fixed it and no returns; replaced two CLS tranny in last few months
-aware of possible tranny defects, tracing to manufacturer contamination of tranny fluid at the factory

Solano Acura
-replaced two TLS trannys to date out of several hundred sold
-aware of possible tranny defects, but isolated cases, also indicated the restricted to certain VIN allotments.

Pleasanton Acura
-replaced a few TLS trannys out of at least 1000, isolated cases
-well aware of problem and said risk relatively low, also caused by factory contamination of transmission fluid

** so it would seem that it is isolated cases and I gathered from talking to them that flushing the tranny fluid at 15K will reduce risk significantly since that will remove the factory contaminant

** CHANGE TRANS FLUID at 15 K !!!!! ***

It seems like 02's are having all the problems but on my 00, I never go along with acura's scheduled maintainence bullsh*t... I've changed my oil at every 3k miles and i changed my tranny fluid at 12 k... im about to hit 24k and i think a new tranny flush is on the agenda... the thing is, should i use honda's tranny fluid or should i use another? I used pennzoil at 12k

Change that fluid ASAP! One thing I've heard over and over is to use only the Honda/Acura ATF fluid. Someone said even Redline Oil said to use Honda ATF fluid when asked about using their Sythetic ATF.

I had the tranny fluid changed at 7500, but am wondering did this resolve the issue or just delay the symptom?

What's up with Acura's fluid problems?

First they put defective washer fluid in all the early CL's that eats through the lines and wiper blades causing replacement of that whole system and now they have F***ed up tranny fluid? Seriously, these guys gotta get their act together on these seemingly insignificant details!

Don't know how true it is that the fluid is defective. But my dealer is flushing out the fluid next week, on the house. They said that they were doing this to all TL-S's that they sold in the spring. Mine was manufactured in March, I have 20K and no slipping problems,,,,Yet

All this talk about blowing the tranny is freaking me out... I'm about to hit 13k miles... are there any signs I should be watching for? Or driving habits I should follow? I don't go out there and race everybody I see... I occaionally "gun it" off the light to prove to the guy next to me in his $60K German V8 that I can be faster... but I rarely red line it. Anything I can do at all to prevent "blowing" my tranmission?
