Question Moonroof???

Hi all,

I have had my new tls for about a couple of week now. I had the moonroof opened yesterday and notice that the roof does not open all the way. I noticed the roof did not go all the way out. Is this normal?

thx

David

Nothing to do with the sunroof, but the rear windows roll all the way down into the door. I haven't seen that since the early '80's!

Yup, I noticed that also; kind like it. Not like other cars have that child safety feature. Hmm... I guess TL-S is not design to carry kids all the time?!

"Child safety" eh? Yeah, I've heard that one before.

The real reason that rear door windows don't roll down all the way is because the rear wheel well is impinging into the rear door. If you looked carefully at the dimensions of the rear door, you'll see that there's no space for the whole glass pane to slide into the door without bumping into the wheel well.

There are two solutions to the problem: One: split the rear door window into two panes (like they do on the TL). The front pane will then be able to slide completely into the door, avoiding the wheel well altogether. Or two: only allow the pane to be lowered partially.

Cheaper cars tend to take on the second approach, because it's cheaper to do (only one pane of glass instead of two) and because the window pane will become too small if they slice it, since the rear doors are so short.

So, "Child Safety" eh? Sounds like Engineer's Trick #62: "It's not a bug, it's a feature!"

In IBM lingo, it's "If you can't fix it, feature it."
