is the moon roof automatic?

Can anyone confirm if the moon roof is automatic. I have to hold down the button to open and close the moon roof. That really sucks considering my girlfriend's Honda CRV is automatic with a push of a button.

If it is automatic, i'll be pissed considering i've driven 50,000 miles with a broken moon roof button.

The Lexus ES300 is automatic.

This car sucks.

i have about 1,000 more miles before my warranty expires, so far, i had to have the following fixed.

broken tailight bulb
foglight indicator lamp did not work
clock backlight did not work
floor mat clip broken
exterior window tape had to be redone
moonroof rattle
seatbelt rattle
dash rattle
needed new tires after 30000 miles
paint finish is terrible. (and I have the clear coat protection)

had brakes resurfaced twice, once at 28,000 miles (free )and now again at 48,000miles (not free). I used to have a truck with 200,000 miles without have to resurface.

some linkage thing broken near the sway bar.

Transmission messed up - had to replace.

After all this, I still hear rattles in my car

I wonder if that justifies this car being sucky...i'm not trying trash this car but with all these problems and all the other problems on the board, i would say this car was not well built. Face it guys, you know it's true too. Let's not pretend this car is all that great. I was very excited in the beginning thinking I got my bang for the buck but the facts are the facts.

No - except for the indicator and back light not working (and one of your brake resurfacings - which was done for free) it all sounds like normal wear and tear to me...

You would actually complain that you "only" got 30k miles from your first set of tires???

I've had cars that blew out ABS units, camshaft sensors, steering tie rods, one car that would constantly go through tires every 8-10k miles - all within the first 50k miles of owning them. A simple rattle would have been a godsend on any of them...

How many cars have you owned for an extended period of time?

sorry wyang76 that your car sucks but even with the little problems I had with my car, this is still the best investment I have ever made! I had the 98 4-Runner, 2000 RX300, MDX and a 87 RX-7 and I LOVE the TL-S! A mix of luxury and sport. Hope your next car is perfect and please let us all know when you find that car because I'd like to purchase that "perfect" car that has NO problems at all!

Yup .. I agree w/ goldendragon .. I drive a Nissan Maxima and an E320 .. both also great cars... but I love the TL-S the most .. The Nissan is quieter, fewer rattles, the Mercedes is classier, same amount of rattles..

still gotz the luv for the TL-S .. I do understand your frustration though

wyang76,

btw.. my "laundry list" of **** that I brought my TL-S in for (small things) is nearly twice as long as yours .. including two tranny's... rattles, paint issues .. twice for rotor resurfacing .. twice for the sunroof rattle.. etc

Still lovin' it.. guess it's all about perspective .. but again, I respect your frustration, I've totally felt what you're feeling now.

If you are not happy with your TLS, just get a CRV. Those are probably the best cars ever built. And it's probably faster than your TL.

wyang786,
Except for your tranny, most of your problems are trim related. If you go to any of the VW boards, they never talk about squeaks and rattles because they are complaining about bigger problems like ignition problems leaving them stranded on the side of the road, various electrical problems, dealers overfilling their crankcase by 1.5 quarts,. Here is a sample from VWVortex Passat forum and this is just a partial from their 1st page:
bucking/stalling during acceleration
Cracks in Dash?
Tail light problem
Has anyone's b5 caught fire?
Car will not start HELP
Vibration under braking

All cars have their problems but I think we have fewer and less severe (other than our trannies, min has been replaced too but I can forgive them, no one is perfect)

I actually like being able to open the moon roof as far as I want. When its raining I can open it as far as the visor and not get wet.

If you like to go 0-60 in 6.2, drive a TL-S. If you want one touch moonroof, then get a CRV!

The roof is NOT automatic.

I had my car for all of 7 hours and figured out that the switch for mine was faulty. It was trying to open the roof by itself AFTER it had already opened putting a constant load on the roof motor. The rocker part of the switch was sticking in the open position.

I bet that wouldn't be too hard of a mod though. Heck, they did it with the windows

He should just open the sliding button and put Krazy Glue under the Open button..

The roof will always open..

Than he will be happy
