misfire or something else?

got on it today (as usual) and my CEL started blinking. i know this means there is a misfire. but could it be something else? only happend at high RPM.

but i was sitting in the rich zone for a bit before i started gunning it.

Same thing happens for me whenever I decide to gun it and reach high rpms. First, the CEL light would blink and then all the other lights would come on (VSA, Caution light). Friends read the code for me and indeed, misfires in Cylinder 1, 4, & 5. I replaced all spark plugs & ignition coils as well so it shouldn't be that issue. Most likely an air filter situation (when i took it out it was very very black, greasy, and polluted with particles. Previous owner was so lazy to maintain the car.

wow another one replaces everything when it was likely 1 coil!!

phee- no code scanner?
Maybe its the trans <g>- or it needs seafoam - or you are loading up the O2 sensor with a rich condition then trying to get on it--wont happen~

CEL means more than a misfire- its a generic code when the car knows something is wrong but not sure what- check engine!

When I had a random misfire code and 3 cylindes misfiring my lights stayed on a blinked. The car shook so violently I could not drive her. It turned out to be 1 coil and it fixed everything..

Is your car shaking v`iolently?
If it is not shaking it prob is not a misfire well its not a bad coil..

There where no codes stored inthe car?
I would think if the CEL came on for a second the code would have been stored and came up on a OBII reader??
The cars do crazy things when they get old I would not even worry about it..

The car had 100's of problems cuz I owned the car 10 years in march..
I bought the car when i came out i was one of the first to take delivery of the type-S at wayne acura.. The car turned out to be the biggest mistake that honda put out..
I really dont think my attitude has anything to do with the car being a POS, I think 170K miles and 10 years of northeast wheather is getting to it.. You buy any 10 year old car and u will have problems...

Yes and if the person owned the car the whole time they would also have gone through 3 transes and a coil pack and warped 3-4 pairs of rotors and everytime the dlr shut the srs light off it came right back on..People that buy the car used have no clue what trans there car is on...

But I guess your logic is correct...I have a attitude which causes my transmissions and other parts of my POS acura to fail!!!

My car IS still going strong just small things fail here and there (and 1 large thing transmission) I never said anything about my car not running strong.. My car will keep running strong till my rebuilt tranny warrenty expires and I get rid of it in 2-3 years or 35K miles.

wOW it seems like everyone loves to bust my balls..
All i said is that old cars tend to start acting up and I have a attitude, I say the car is slow and people start slamming me.. I though this was a free country but I can't have my own opinions on a message board?

Phee. Blinking CEL is a misfire. It happens mostly in our cars if you get axle hop (i used to get it a lot with the 6 speed till i changed shocks), but sometimes at high RPM. I wouldnt worry about it unless it happens every time you hit hig rpm.

It doesnt store it when it goes away for some reason. Its not a mechanical failure of any thing.
