Post misaligned doors

Not sure how easy it is to fix My friend had the problem on his Silver 99TL. But, his car was totaled on the highway. I remember him telling me that he believed he was getting more Wind noise in his car than mine, probably because of the misalignment.

Question

If 3/4 doors are misalignment, and dealer can't fix the problem properly, does that count as a "Lemon"?? Or does Lemon has to be defects that impairs/endangers the passengers??

What exactly do you mean by "misaligned?" Do they not shut properly, or is this something you can visibly notice?

Visibly noticeable. The side belt line is lower for the front door, and the chrome line of the rear right door doesn't line up with the chrom line on C-Pillar. Driver side door panel is not flush when looking from the side....

Though, all doors close properly..

Ugh -- that doesn't sound good.

Although, the night i drove the TL-S home from the dealership, I immediately began to notice quailty and craftsmanship differences (for the worse) comparing our '99 Benz and our old '94 ES300 (which was flawlessly crafted, believe it or not). The Lexus' and MB's are just built better in terms of fit and finish. I'm sure they're no more reliable than an Acura, but it'd be nice to include that *feature* in a $30K sedan! I was watching t.v. today and saw a commercial for the Toyota Avalon -- the car in the commercial was $33,600 (fully loaded) and had the wood dash and .. man.. the quality was impeccable! The interior looked better than an ES300's!

I just finished handwashing my ten day old TL-S. There's not a single defect inside or out. No interior creaks or rattles either. I have an MDX too, and there's not a single flaw on it either. Overall, I'm quite impressed with Acura's build quality (so far). While there's been a number of posts on the board regarding adjustment type problems, they appear to be the exception rather than the rule. The most serious problem posted was a TL-S with a leaking transmission that appears to have been a bad gasket. Hope everything works out for you when you pick yours up.

Lemons laws, and the definition of lemon, vary from place to place. I think lemon refers to a problem that persists after the dealer attempts to fix it "x" number of times.

My doors are flush, but the gap between the l/r door and the 1/4 panel is larger than on the right. The dealer is going to send it to the body shop to re-align it.

I checked my doors earlier today and the silver trim just above the handle on the drivers side front door is lower than the silver trim on the rear door. From a distance you can't really tell, but upon closer inspection it is apparent.

The door opens & shuts OK, and is flush w/ the other body panels. No problem there.

I know there was at least another owner in this thread who had the same problem. What happened, was you dealer able to realign the panels?

If its a relatively minor adjustment, I will have my dealer take a look at it. If its a major operation, I probably won't. Wouldn't want them to screw things up further .....

All doors work fine, maybe I am being picky, but I DO expect Acura to have quality fit/finish as Toyotas.

Also, I am afraid that, after dealer send it to body-shop and re-aligned the doors, will it make the door rattles in the long run?? What steps are involved when doing door re-alignments??

1000bpm,

I have the same problem as you, but mine is on the passenger side, and it's not obvious from a distance, but upon close up, you definitely will see the uneven trims

I'm taking mine in Tuesday to get the doors aligned. I'll post the results.

Unhappy

My WDP TL-S finally showed up, "gift wrapped", straight off the truck.

I am supposed to pick it up Monday/Tuesday but upon initial inspection this evening, I also noticed it's doors are not aligned horizontally. Vertically they look fine. The trunk lid is also misaligned on the right rear corner.

It's VIN is in the 10K range, so Acura hasn't fixed anything yet. It also has the usual issues of the RH tailpipe not centered.

What really irritates me is that most of the others on the lot (VIN 2000-3000) are perfectly aligned. The one I rejected earlier for mileage is also OK.

By the way, the build completion date is on a tuesday/wednesday.

Akry: I don't think you're being too picky here. For $32k I think its reasonable to expect the doors to be perfectly aligned

Lonny: please let us know what happens after your trip to the dealer.

I wonder if this has anything to do with early production runs. A buddy of mine who's had his TLS for a little over a month now has the same misalignment of the silver trim, but on the passenger side (mine's on the driver side). He also has larger-than-usual gaps (between the chrome strips) in the triangular shaped windows in the front & the back on the drivers side. His SN, like mine, is in the 1000's.

Interestingly, the dealer says that the leading edges should be out further (slightly) to reduce wind noise. This is the case with the car I am buying. I heard this elsewhere also. Is this a new thing on the TLs?

Cool

But Peter, I have never seen anyone under the age of 60 in a Toyota Babylon, other than those at least a foot under nromal height and 60 pounds overweight.

It is coma city - I would beg for a defect just to have some excitement in my life if I owned a Abaloney.
