Mileage on new car
#3
OK, personally I would consider that a Demo car and not a new car. If you like it and the price is right and ya gotta have it buy it . If you were anyone but a dealer that car would be considered used; it just hasn't been title yet.

Do you know who put the original 200 on the car? Was it a demo that someone possibly flogged prior to breaking it in?
It's probably OK, but if it bugs you, then get a different one.

Mine had 8 miles on it when I picked it up. Unless you're getting a discount, I'd tell the dealer no way. My dealer is affiliated with another Acura store that's about 60 miles away that they shuttle cars between. While a car runner was putting my license plate's on he told me how much fun he has driving new TL-S' between the two dealerships and how well they handle at 100MPH. I don't think driving at 100MPH with 8 miles on the car is part of the recommended Acura break-in procedure. 200 miles can be a lot or nothing depending on how they were accumulated.

200 miles are too high. Who knows what kind of people and how those 200 miles are put in? When I test drove the vehicle, the salesman told me to floor the gas pedal, and he did it, too. I ended up buying the one on the showroom floor with only 8 miles on it.

Does it have fried chicken crumbs all over the floor?
Did you see the salesman unload his golf clubs from the trunk before he gave it to you?
Are there children's toys in the backseat that don't belong to you?
Also check under the car for unusual packages secured to the undercarriage. You could be the unsuspected mule for some unscrupulous dealer.

Yeh, my TL-S had 6 miles on it BEFORE I test drove it and 10 miles on it when I took delivery. No reasonable excuse for 200 miles on a new car. But leave it to a dealership/salesman to come up with some cock 'n bull story to get a potential customer to believe it is "normal" mileage. I'd say that it is either one real long test drive or a hell of a lot of small test drives; either excuse is unacceptable.

They probably just got that one in exchange for one that another dealer wanted from them. They do this all the time when they customers request for a certian color.
It's probably ok but they tend to use it for test drives. I wouldn't get it cuz I think back to what I did on my test drive. If you have no other choice and if they are willing to throw in a body kit for free, I think it may be worth it.

I wouldn't touch it, even with a discount. Mine had 9 miles on it and I watched as they removed the plastic from the interior.
YOU be the one to break it in. Nobody knows (that would honestly tell you) what kind of drving happened in the first 200 miles. You should not only be concerned with the engine, but with the tranny and brakes, as well.

C'mon, 200 miles! My car had 174 miles at purchase, 60 of those miles was the round trip distance to and from the car show where I first saw the car! I have purchased more tan 12 NEW cars in my life and all had less miles than this one. I have had problems only one time and the car had 8 miles on it..
Unless someone was doing power burn outs with the car I could care less...
As far as flooring the car when new- that is the best thing for a new motor it helps seat the valves. I really would not be concerned, besides you could use it to your advantage and if it is the color you want, I would not sacrifice that over 200 miles.. just my .02

I bought my Aegean Blue TL Type S with 180 miles on it. It was more miles than I wanted on the car, but I got a good deal on the car, and it was the color that I wanted - something that no one else in a 100 mile radius could get me with the navigation system. The dealer I bought it from had to get it from another dealer 65 miles away (which was about 150 miles from me), who had traded it before then, so I didn't think 180 miles was out of the question.

5-6 miles seems like a pretty long walking distance if not driving distance, I am wondering how the car actually get to the dealer ship from Ohio, it certainly doesn't take 5-6 miles to load and unload the car off the truck, does it. So to answer your question, buy a car with less than 5 miles on it, or you might regret it in the long run if the car was floored during the demo.

200 or 100 miles on the odometer means the car was USED as a demo or so called "company car" wherein the manager or higher ups use the car for driving around. i wouldn't buy it, Brand New or rather a $30,000 car means nobody a$$ sat on the perforated leather seat but MINE when i drive the car off the lot.

It's up to you, but 200 miles ain't new!
I had a similar experience while buying my 90 Maxima SE new. Negotiated a deal at $250 over invoice. Waited weeks (5 speed manuals were scarce). Nissan raised the invoice price by $250 while waiting. Dealer calls: "Got your car!" I go. The car's got over 900 miles on it, pinstriped, dealer logo'ed, covered with swirl marks, dust bunnies under the hood. Told 'em they could keep it. Sales manager got pissy with me, told me I was the problem. Had 'em cut me a check to refund my deposit and walked out.
Two weeks later I drove off another dealer's lot with 8 miles on the od, for just $250 over my original deal.
Don't let 'em screw you!

I noticed that my dealer was using 2 or 3 TL-S cars for test drives. When I was ready to make my final deal, I told him that I didn't want one that had been driven by everyone else. When I drove mine off the lot, it had 6 miles on it.
I'd wait for a "new" one to come in. If you'd get a better deal on the one with 200 miles, that's a call you'll have to make.
That's my 2 cents!

From what I understand, Acura actually requires or "recommends" the dealer to put on around 10 miles before they roll off the lot with the customer for safety measure. I drove off the lot with 7 miles. I would not consider anything over 10-15 miles a "new" car.
That's just me!
