i feel ya. i thought i was the only one, i hate warm water. i haven't looked under my car yet (recently bought it), but, i'm assuming the previous owner removed the heatshield due to excessive rattling

It could either be the heatshield, or maybe it could be that the heater tubes under the center console are missing or not connected right, so therefor, when your driving and your heat is on it gets hot, thats my 2 cents

Got the heat on? The hot air goes around the cup holders and out the rear vents.

In the summer, with the A/C on you can cool drinks in the arm rest.

try opening the vent in the console's backside to let heat flow out. otherwise it could get trapped in the console and circulate around there.

there's not a whole lot of things going on in that area besides that. you could have hose leak or faulty wirings causing heated sparks, but that's highly likely and woulda ignited

i think maybe it's related to the air passing through that area to the rear seat vents? my console/cupholders would get cold in the summer and now gets warm...

yup, if you leave the rear vents closed hot air gets built up in the console. use it to your advantage haha

the two heater plastic pipes run right beside it, unfortunately because of how close it is and how hot it gets, it will transfer to the cup holders...theres a seal, but its foam....

there has been a thread on this before. Some people enjoy the feature some hate it. I've heard that wrapping aluminum foil or wrapping the heat pipes with an insulator will help with the problem.

Make sure the rear vents are open, it will make a difference. Also you could wrap the duct work with a foil insulator tape.
