Exclamation Micro Filter For Tl - Replace

Want to remove all the air filters for my TL. Anybody here done it before and knows when are they do for replacing. I noticed my car has been getting dustier on my dashboard than before. Can someone help me out on how to do it, and know what are the best filters for it, or is it just the dealer that carry's it?
Thanks

Moving this to the main forum. A search of micron filters will give you all the info you need, along with step by steps.

In short Acura recommends replacing them every 2yrs, or 30k, but many do it earlier than that. They are located behind the glovebox, and arent difficult to change at all. Purolator sells the same exact filter as the dealer (for a much lower price of course). I am not talking about a replacement part, but the exact same filter you can get at the dealer. The local pepbooys should have them in stock. As I said though, a search will give you all the info you need.

and to the purolator, I use it and it is even printed the same!

you will need to pop out the glovebox supports on the side of the internal walls of the glovebox, and then un screw the glovebox from the car via two screws on the bottom of the dash (easily found near the hinges, you should be able to see them...

then there is a clip under there which pops off a black plastic cover and then you will see the two filter trays... slide them out, replace the filters, make sure you hit all the "lips/notches" on the tray (you'll see what I mean), slide the tray back in, replace the black cover, replace the glovebox screws, replace the clips on the side of the inside of the glovebox, pat yourself on the back...

You MAY find a dashboard colored piece saying "do not discard" or somethign like that held on by 4 screws when you first remove the glovebox clips and see the vent housing... just remove them and the piece, the put it back when you're done... i dont see what it's doing there except protecting the cover from the boogeyman, but I left it because I am anal

Alot of threads such as O/T /Car Talk threads cannot be moved, and can only be locked. its not punishment, we just dont have the capability at the moment.

There is a method to our madness.

I'm sort of interested in getting some of the Bosch "Premium" air filters they've been advertising. Anyone have any experience with these? Notice a difference at all?

what kind of difference are you looking for? all it is is a filter to stop the outside debris from being blown thru the car.

I change mine every six months. This may seem extreme, but living in Los Angeles with high summer temps and moderate humidity, and even warm winters months where the A/C is on. I have noticed that after about 6 months or so the filters are pretty dirty and a little bit of mold is just starting to form. Plus, changing them so often, my car still smells really nice inside, no musty odors or anything. The purolator ones arn't that expensive and i just buy a couple boxes at a time when they go on sale.

I installed them and then tested them by;

1. I asked my wife to sit in the car with all the windows up.
2. I asked her to put her face directly in front of a dash outlet.
3. Started the car and turned the fan on high.
4. Ensured that the Recirc light was off.
5. I sat at the base of the windshield.
6. Farted.
7. I asked my wife what she could smell.

She couldn't smell a thing.

But seriously, as fsttyms1 said, all they do is filter outside debris. Buy the cheapest you can find, usually Purolator.

I was thinking of the RL I drove. Seemed like the air in there smelled cleaner, or something. Hoping these new filters would give the same effect. *shrugs* Guess my air is good for now.

Guess that I have a pretty good dealer, I just checked to see that mine had been replace during my last service (about 3K ago, almost time for the next service ) and it had been done. I actually think that my dealer maybe one of the better ones out there from the sounds of it.

and OH, By the way, when you are taking out those glove compartment stops, No need for all the tools and squeezing this and prying that... just get the wieght off the stop and give it a good push from the outside in with your finger, it will pop right out.
