Megan Racing headers arrived!!!

Hi all. Yes indeedy, my brand new Megan Racing headers were delivered to my doorstep yesterday!

I will be having them installed this weekend. Is there anything I need to do after they are on? Like reset ECU?

Will I be able to feel a difference in power?

I know these are a lot of dumb questions, but any info would be greatly appreciated.

Who is doing the installation?

Do you also have an aftermarket exhaust system?

Dynamic Motorsports in Dillsburg, PA will be doing the install on Saturday morning. And, no I do not have an aftermarket exhaust (don't want one either).

Why, are you in PA? If so, what part?

About 15 miles from DMS. What are they charging you to install the headers?

Not sure. They only charged about $100 labor for my pulley install. I think there labor rate is like $70/hr. So it'll prolly cost me a couple hundred bucks.

BTW, I'm in Mechanicsburg. PM me sometime if you ever need additional info.

Do I have to reset the ECU? Or will it learn the new setup w/o resetting it?

Okay ladies. DMS installed my headers on Sat. morning for $116; 2 hours of labor. They did disconnect my battery so my ECU is in the process of learning my new setup. This weekend the car felt exactly like it did right after my CAI install....like crap.

The car now sounds a little meaner though. As soon as you as you fire it up, you hear a deep, slightly audible growl which sounds real nice.

Fitment was almost perfect. The heat shield on the 1st catalytic converter needed a very slight trim to get the pipe to sit flush when bolted to it.

Anyway, I think the ECU is definitely close now. I got in this morning to go to work and noticed a pretty big difference. I came onto the main road and gunned it thru 1st, 2nd and into 3rd. Well, as soon as VTEC kicked in in 2nd, the tires slipped a little! I was like HOLY F*&K! In dry conditions too!

Today, at lunch, I'm going to give her hell. I'll let you know how it goes.

Oh, and BTW. The welds looked VERY good!

I got mine last week.. I was the in the first shipment tho... It took about a week to arrive at my house from shipping date. The headers appear to be in ok shape, but the box is beaten to HELL. That's UPS ground for ya.

same gains for all headers. TL-p gets less than type-s tho, 15-20 for tl-p, 20-30 for type s

By and large, headers are headers, so the gains will be about the same across brands (except for the real junk headers). CompTech has some graphs on their site from dyno runs.

Everyone quotes the 15 - 20 hp for TL-P. What they fail to mention is that this additional horsepower (16.3 - 17.9 hp gain) is achieved at 6,000 to 6,750 rpm and it was with headers and their muffler system. What percent of your driving time do you spend at these rpm levels? I imagine most people spend the majority of their driving time at less than 5,000 rpm where the average gain with headers and mufflers is 2.4 hp.

According to most owners with headers, you really feel a difference in the high RPM's. Generally if you are passing or just ripping it on the highway in 3rd gear, that is when you will feel the difference with the headers.

All in all, if you can score a good deal on Megan or alphawerks headers, I say go for it.

Later guyz..

post pics of internal welds so we can compare them against the Alphawerks. If you do a search for the alphawerks on ACL you will find plenty of info for and against them...
