Great news! The vibration sounds I was experiencing with the new d-pipe have seemed to subside.

I think maybe the system just needed a day or two to settle in. Hopefully the noise will not come back....

Anyway, thank you keepingitclean for everything you have done.

Just an update on my new d-pipe. Still getting a slight tinny rattling noise when I accelerate and turn at the same time.

It went away for a day or two and now its back, although not as bad. Its not that noticeable but noticeable enough....

The saga continues...

I did a search about removing the heat shield on the cat and could not find many tlers driving w/o it. However one person said he had a similar problem and an Acura dealer did some kind of mod on the cat heat shield itself, claiming that Acura cheapened the material some kind of way solving the problem. I am tempted to remove the shield just to test. Has anyone tried this?

A catalytic converter generates a lot of heat hence the shields which prevent things from catching on fire. I suppose a test would be OK but I wouldn't leave them off for long.

You sir are correct, it would just be a test for sure. The reason I thought about testing it briefly, is it actually has 2 shields, one that is mounted directly underneath the area of the cat, then of course the one that physically surrounds the cat itself.

Have you noticed any major changes? Does your center console seem hotter to you or anything else for that matter.

Just don't park where there's any high grass or combustibles that could catch fire if they came in contact with the converter.

I havent noticed any heat changes.. But I guess its because the weather isnt that warm yet.

I would figure the whole exhaust would have the same temperature as the Cat. How would that cause a fire.

I've always heard the cat runs hotter than the rest of the exhaust system.

That can be true.. But you go figure that from the header to mufflers. The headers should be the hottest part of the exhaust.

Well, Im back with bad news...

The vibration and rattling noises are getting much worse since installing the new d-pipe.

I get a loud tinny vibration noise from underneath the car (it sounds like the heat shield on the cat. is vibrating against something).

I'm also getting a low, bassy vibration noise when I accelerate. Kind of like when you hear a good system rattling shit in a P.O.S. car but not as pronounced.

Anyone else experiencing this with the new d-pipe installed?

Looks like I'm headed back to the dealership......

Bummer. Are you considering installing your stock headers or getting Comptechs?

Not yet. But if its not fixed next time I get it worked on, I will start to consider other brands of headers.

I've already spent entirely too much money and time during this process.

I wouldn't be all that upset, but the original set of Megans I pulled off the car didn't sound as bad as this set. Not to mention the problem is getting worse. My car now sounds like a real P.O.S. Its embarrasing really.

I am happy that Megan is trying to werk with us, but this 'redesigned' d-pipe leaves much to be desired.

r u guys fuking serious??
I'm glad i havent put my new downpipe on yet, I wont even bother if this is the same response everyone is getting. Is the leakage problem still there too or just the resonance??
why the hell is it so hard to make some good headers?

my new downpipe fixed the leaking i had out of one of the gaskets, i do get slight vibrations sometimes but i think if i jus went back and had the bolts retorqued itd be fine.

could be the installation. ive given my muffler guy alot of business so he took time in making sure he put it on perfectly.

These goddamn vibration/rattling noises are getting rediculous. They are getting sooo bad, I'm embarrased to even drive my car.

I'm going to try and fix it myself this weekend. If I cant, I will try the dealer one more time. After that, I'm gonna try for a refund......

I have no other choice.

daym dude that sucks, how the hell do we get rid of this prob? What causes this resonance/rattling noise?? Is it so damn hard to fix? I still havent put in my new downpipe due to hearing all this I dont think it'll be worth it, maybe to just fix the leak ill put it in.

Well, i fixed one of the problems this weekend (temporarily). It turns out that the bolts on the heat shield around the catalytic converter rusted thru and the heat shield was flapping around under there causing the tinny rattling noise. So that noise was not header related.

I wrapped the heat shield with duct tape real tight and it seemed to do the job. I know its ghetto but I'll have the dealership replace it with a new one next time I'm in for service.

However, I still get the low, bassy resonance sounds when accelerating. It really sounds pretty bad. I will have the dealership retorque the bolts and see if that helps.

damn these freaking headers!
I worked my ass off to put the new downpipe in, i was glad at first because there was no resonance, but the leakage problem was still there. so atleast one problem got solved right? WRONGG, about 4 days later, resonance is back, only good part this time is that it goes away but is louder then before!! After i drive the car for about 3-5minutes it goes away, but everytime u turn the car on and leave it's sounds horrible at like 2.2k rpm and then once again at 3.2rpm , i dont know wat to do man! Some peeps have no probs with it and some dont, i guess i got the bad apple off the tree!!
wat the hell causes resonance??
Does a leak in the headers cause a hp loss??

To be honest I think that you should just request a different set of headers. I have the new batch and its been about a month and I haven't had any probs.
