Talking Me, an eclipse spyder, and a cop

So I was on my way home on the gsp north with my g/f minding my own business. As I passed the spyder, I paid no attention to it. Couple of minutes later he came flying up and passed me and then slowed down to wait for me. You guys know what that means. So I took off after him. Now I know the gsp is full of cops so I really didn't want to pass it. So I kept up with him knowing that I can pass it at anytime if I really push it. This went on for like 10 minutes. Then I noticed an unmarked cop car in front of the spyder. I slowed down but for some reason the spyder kept going and braked at the last second almost rear-ending the undercover cop car. Finally the spyder moved to the right lane (we were both on the left fast lane) to pass the cop car. Too late, the cop car pulled up behind him and followed him all the way to the exit 140 rest area without turning on the lights. Only when they were near the exit did the cop turned the lights on. I was laughing all the way. But I know it could've easily been me if I passed him up before.

BTW, the spyder was weaving in and out of traffic while I just stayed on the left lane. Only after my lane cleared up did I go after him. That's probably what the undercover cop saw in his rear-view mirror so he went after him.

Disclaimer: I do not condone racing.

Sup bro! I've been around. How's everything with you?

You better show up to a meet when I set it up.

wowww.. 140. thats pretty south from my area.. im all the way at exit 162. well i would never take a chance at GSP. you go above 70 and youre screwed. as soon as you hit 70 there will be a cop right on your tail. there are way too many hiding spots for cops on GSParkway. good thing you saw the unmarked cop!

Not bad. The car has come along way since you last saw it
And I'll definitly try and make it, I should have some more goodies by May

And anyone ever notice that fake patrol car in the low 130s on the GSP? Its a real cop car, just no cop in it. They even have a club on the steering wheel

yup! i saw that too. but its there to trick people to slow down. that's what i heard its there for. its so crazy, but it also has one of those cop radars in it, so anyone that has the radar detectors, it'll get them paranoid and slow down as well. its actually a pretty good idea, but its not like its gonna help once everyone finds out about it

I know that, but the club on the wheel cracked me up when I saw it. Not to mention it was a bright yellow color.

So you guys are telling me that the cop car that sits at the 130 exit (rt 1&9) is a fake patrol car? I swear I've seen a real cop in there sometimes. Gotta check it out the next time I am down there.

man, I remember when I used to go 80+ on my way down to RU. Geez, there are that many cops on the GSP? What about the turnpike?

hahaha turnpikes are WIIIDE open. most of the time. im always doing a hundred down the turnpike to get to lincoln tunnel/holland tunnel. or jersey city. but yeah.. your best bet is turnpike, its just there are way too many trucks running there. so i like to take GSParkway. at least the parkway is huge and alot of passing space. just gotta watch out for them cops at every 5 exits.

i heard this 'urban legend' that the police use EZ-PASS to gauge how fast you are going. Like when you enter the parkway, pay the toll, then get to the next toll plaza and use EZ-PASS, they can use the time it took you along with the distance between those two toll plazas to get your average speed. Sounds kinda big brother-ish. Any truth behind it?

OH SHOOT. if thats true im screwed.. everyday commute for me im going 90-100 between each toll plaza. but i havent gotten anything about that yet. hopefully it isnt true.. there's a few video clips i took of myself in the picture gallery forum where i was speeding down GSParkway after a toll booth.. my average speed on GSP is 90. especially between exits exits150 and 160.. where the toll boooths are located.

Even if it is true, you should have an easy time fighting it:

1.) Most state's driver's code, explicitly define the violator as being the driver not the owner of the vehicle. EZ-Pass doesn't differentiate between the two. They have no way to prove who was driving.

2.) In order for this scheme to work, all the toll plazas need to be on a synchronized clock. Sure, it's probably not hard to do, but it cannot have any doubts about its reliability. My VCR constantly readjusts it's time, and sometimes thinks its in a different timezone, and will be off by as much as 3 hours. Unless they can prove their timing mechanism is 100% fail proof, I don't think it would have a leg to stand on.

3.) I don't know about the East Coast, but here on the West Coast, the toll roads/highways are actually exempt from various traffic laws, because the state laws explicitely defines the infractions as occuring on a public highway. Though I've heard that various "owners" of these toll freeways either do their own enforcing, or just let cops on their highway anyways.

is it just me or are TLs less looked upon by cops? I was going 85+ at a 60 limit highway yesterday and a cop sped up to my side, flashed his lights, i slowed down, and he just up and left. I thought for sure he'd pull me over.

heck no..i dunno if it's because my TL is modded, but I've had cops follow me for miles trying to see if I violate some law. I look in my review mirror and I can see him typing in my license plate. Pretty annoying if you ask me.
