Yo guys.
Help me out. I got my '99 TL (ABP) in February. Unfortunately, this week i was hit by a guy running a red light. Right in the front passenger side. he took off, so i don't think i'll be getting any reimbursement from his insurance.
Anyway, my engine is totally screwed.
My buddy who runs a jap car shop actually suggested that he could cram a 3.5 litre from the new nissans into my TL. The nissan is more powerful and revs higher, so it seems like it may be a good idea.
What do you guys think? Does anyone have any experience with this? I have a friend with a Mustang 5.0 in a Volvo 740, and it seems to work. This is even closer.
Thoughts?
thanks.

Not worth it....too much work. What about all the compability with all the engine accessories. I understand a different honda engine in different honda car, but a nissan engine on a honda a no no
Are you sure you can trust your friend on this??I always refer my own experience to things like that, but please be careful, there's a lot of scam like that happening.
I had a 95 Accord V6, and I couldn't even find somebody who would want to (if they are trust worthy shop), either convert my auto to Manual or just put a H22a engine with transmission in it.
All other shops who said no problem to me were the one actually don't even have a clue or even seen my cars.. thus just trying to get some money out of me.... so be ware...
I can relate your scenrio to mine, because putting a nissan engine in a honda, is ten times harder than just swapping a different engine between two Hondas...
Here's a list of the problem you will enconter:
1. Custom Engine Mount. Even someone is capable of doing that, are they going to be stong enough??
2. Electrical: Just the other member here said, you might as well changing everything to Nissan, ie, harness, Transmission, all the computers, and who knows how many Honda parts are compatable with the nissan engine and transmission.
3. Drive shaft? Axle?
4. what about the transmission fitment to the interior of the car?? I have seen some sick Jap. machine fit a diff. manufacturer engine into it, ie. Top Secret's Supra with RB26DET(GTR), S2000 engine to an AE86... Don't know how much is Top Secret since it's the boss's car, but the AE86 cost that owner $500,000 Yen(he owns he own shop too, so cheap labor hours he's talking about) and we are talking about a Gutted out race car with no comfort amenties inside that car.....
5. Just think about they start the modification and run into little problems, Do you have the time n money for them Mickey mousing around?? Can you afford the car sitting at the corner, (or worse outside at the back yard) for 6 months with no progress.??
Conclusion: If you think your friend is very trustable, and he's a genius of doing that kind of stuff (did he ever do that kind of swapping project before??), and you have a very deep wallet... The sky is the limit...
But please Be careful...
1) why wouldn't your insurance pay for it? if you have full coverage, they'll pay for it...
2) a type S engine wouldn't really be a sleeper... it's only 35 more hp...
3) to do a auto/manual swap or an H22 in an Accord is not that uncommon... most import tuner shops probably have done a couple of swaps like that, they don't need to see your car. it's not really that hard. they're in business, of course they're trying to make whatever money they can.
4) I've seen many engine swaps between different brands, for example, Mustang 5.0 in Miata, LT1 in last gen RX-7, Chevy 305/350 in 260Z (yes, two of'em), and all of these are here in town and yes I've seen'em, they're fast and they're pretty reliable.
5) if your friend believes he can do it, go for it.
I'd say check with your insurance company to see if they cover it, if not, I think you'd be better off swapping a domestic engine in there, more power, cheaper (out of your own pocket).

Personally I wouldn't do it, expecially when the person doing the work hasn't done it before (assuming).

There was no ABP in '99. In fact, the original poster doesn't even OWN a TL. This thread is a complete fabrication, and is in no way to be taken seriously. If you recall the original poster had also posted an asinine message regarding the supposed the death of Steve Jobs; that thread has (thankfully) since been killed.
