Master Mechanic admits, Brakes under-designed.

My dad talked to the local acura master mechanic about continued steering wheel shake caused by warped rotors. He admited the brakes are "slightly underdesigned." Sound like "a little pregnant."
Doesnt a design defect mean they should upgrade the brakes or replace warped rotors for free?

Yeah wouldn't that be nice.

They should replace your rotors if they are warped under normal operating conditions. I believe this is a one-time good-faith replacement.

I had mine done a long time ago, then I switched to Rotora slotted and Satisfied Pro-ceramic pads.

Nice try.

That's the mechanic's opinion.

The opinion of the people who you want to pay for the free replacement or upgrade will say the brakes are just the right size.

These brakes suck , I had the dealer change them when I bought the car a month ago and still not impressed with it's performance.

You're right. Looking at old copies of Car & Driver, Road & Track, etc. when a Honda/Acura is compared with other cars in its class, much of the time the Honda/Acura is near the bottom in braking performance.

Apart from a BBK, all you can do is use better quality rotors and pads and hope for the best. I went with Rotora d&s rotors, EBC greens and SS brake lines. I don't know if my brakes are quantifiably better but psychologically I feel better about them

My rotors and pads have been replaced under warranty 2x. Every Honda I've had has been plagued by this problem. Had an Altima once that had awesome brakes, and then there's the Camry and its brakes suck worse than any Hondas I've had.

honestly, I've never had a problem with my stock brakes being shitty. I've had to stop pretty damn quickly cuz of idiot drivers and they will stop this heavy car. I've had the rotor warp issue but all in all, the brakes do what they need to do. But of course, they aren't Willwood or Bear. thats why those brakes cost so much. My past car was a 97 Prelude and that thing stopped on a dime, but it was also a 2 door lighter car. The TL is big, much more weight, and honestly the first thing I said when I test drove the car was, these brakes need an upgrade. But if you come from a smaller car, or a car that you did upgrade your brake package, then I can see how the TL brakes wouldn't cut it for ya. But driving the car for a few years I realize that I was just used to a lighter car and these brakes really are fine, even under hard braking. My 2 cents

even the new accord/tl under perform from 70-0mph every other car tested out there. best bet is to upgrade your rotors and pads, flush the fluid, and put in braided lines. if you want to go all out, get no less then 2 piston calipers for the fronts. but then again, these car's stock brakes really aren't designed for repeated 70-0mph stops. but i will agree, it took me a while to "get use to" the shitty braking compared to the roush.

I installed my rotora bbk on Sunday, and noticed that the stock brake caliper only has 1 pistons. Pretty pathetic imo

also remember the brakes are only as good as the tires.
My OEM brakes made it beyond 50k with no warping and most of you have seen videos of how i drive. I think honda could have done with thicker rotors, not lager dia, and a better master cyl for better feel

Yeah the breaks on my TL-S feel a bit wierd. It kind of feels like I am fred flinstone and am literally stopping the car with my foot. I thought they did since the first day I got it. It is now shaking so I am probably going to need to new rotors. But as others have said I have had some close calls and these breaks stopped the car pretty dang good. On the newer TSX loaner I got the breaks felt alot better but they were probably new and it is a lighter car.
