Talking Made up my mind!

Been lurking on the boards since February. I have learned a lot from all of you whether you know it or not..... Made the decision to get a TL-S, Black on Black which my dealership is trying to find for me. (2 weeks) Hopefully I won't have to wait too long for it. This would be my 7th Honda product (6 Accords), and my first Acura. I am so excited!

I too just purchased a TL on saturday. I have also had 5 Accords 1 Vigor, and it seems time to move up to an Acura. I considered the TLS, but for $4000.00 I cannot justify it. It is purely a personal choice. I am giving up my 1992 Accord EXR and retaining my 1998 EXV6. I love the black on black TLS. Congratulations.

Might be $4000 difference in Canadian dollars but in US dollars I believe it is around $2500 or so. I, personally feel this price difference will be recoupped when the TL-S is sold or traded for a new vehicle. One great thing about the Acura CL, CL-S, TL and TL-S they hold their value VERY well

They don't hold their value that well. I bought my car in '98 for around $26k, and I'm selling it now for around $17k, that's almost $10k lost in only 3 years.... even my Sunfire GT held more value then that, I only lost $6k on that in 3 years. Unless you have a mint condition Legend or Vigor, the resale value of Acura's isn't that great, especially with all of the redesigns in the works. Once the new TL comes out in 2003 as a 2004, no one will want the 2002 and the value will drop. Also keep in mind that you own a 2002 model about 3-5 months before the 2002 models typically come out (more if you bought it in the spring), so your 2002 model is going to have as much if not more miles then most 2001 cars....

That's right in line. Typical resale values I have seen listed for Acura's are 70% after 2 years and 55% after 4 years. On a $26k car, that would mean it should be worth $18,200 after 2 years and $14,300 after 4 years. If you are getting $17k after 3 years, you are actually coming out a little ahead.

Keep in mind, even the best cars are still money losers. Most American cars resale values are more like 50% after 2 years and 30-35% after 4 years, so compared to this you are still doing much better buying an Acura.

As for your Sunfire GT, that is not a fair comparison. I am sure that car costs nowhere near $26k. You have to look at the resale value as a percentage of the original price to compare apples to apples.

Congrats man! My previous car was also an accord (95') Trust me, you will love the TLS. It rides much better, but still have the elements of an Honda. Oh nice color choice too, like me!

I agree with imax - go with the TL-S if you can swing it. The difference in models is definitely worth the $$
