Lowering Question
Hi. I recently bought a 00 TL. I love the way the stock suspension rides. Very smooth and comfortable. I do, however, want to lower the TL, but I dont want to lose that factory ride. Are there any suspension set ups you guys recommend to lower the TL without stiffening the ride? The lower the better, but I can deal with a 1" drop if thats the only way to go. I'm considering Tein SS or a Koni/H&R sport set up. I'm scared that even on the softest setting, the SS might still be stiffer than stock due to it being a racing suspension, same with the koni/h&r setup. Anyone have any input on how either rides? or any other suggestions? Thanks.
i had H&R OE Springs with the stock shocks and the ride was really smooth. I've since switched to Tein springs+Tokico Blue shocks and the ride is also very smooth. Nothing compared to stock, but close.
i lowered my car last friday with comptech springs and the ride is not close to stock. i have about 9k miles on my car and the car is noticeably bouncy on the freeway..... but the car looks so damn good
I guess it's not too bad.

I have the Tein SS's and they are definitely stiffer then stock. With my 18's on I feel every bump and every break in the road. I love it though. If your looking for stock, the Tein's might be too stiff for you.
H&R Sport will give you a very noticeable drop and it's still comfy. To be honest, our stock ride is so soft that adding stiffer springs will still give you a somewhat soft ride.
Also, if you get Tein SS and put it on the softest setting, you'll experience near stock ride.

I've had Comtech Springs with stock shocks on my TL type S for about 50K miles now.
I love the ride except for the fact that the Comptechs have a slightly higher spring rate. The spring rate itself is not the issue.
The stock shocks are the issue.
They don't provide enough rebound dampening force to match the rebound rate (spring rate) of the Comptech springs. Lack of proper rebound dampening results in that bouncy feeling that many people talk about when using Comtech Springs with their stock shocks.
In such a setup the stock shocks do wear out faster, but while they are "good", they still don't provide enough dampening force as one might like.
My stock shocks are just about ready to be replaced.
When I do replace my shocks I think I'll be moving to KONI yellows. If I had to do it all over again I would have done both the springs and the shocks at the same time.
