Lower Ball Joint

Took my car to a local acura/honda independent repair shop for the 90k servicing. They said the lower ball joints were worn out and it would take 400+ to replace them. Just wanted to get an opinion from you guys if this reasonable price for this kind of job.

thanks

well in san francisco, my buddy's shop charges about 450-500 for the job. book time is 1hr each side plus parts. unless you know someone who's specializes in honda/acura....that pricing is about right.

Had those replaced recently, it was $328 counting the alignment. It was done at a tire shop & I think they used Moog joints.

The knuckle assembly has to be removed and the ball joints replaced. That's probably $75/side for the ball joint and labor to press it in. The rest is labor to R&R the knuckle assemblies.

Thanks Guys. I will look around and see if any of the shops will do it cheaper.

many times the dealer will quote the entire new arm assembly with new bushings installed already
Makes their job easy, and makes more money for parts dept.

Check tire-suspension private shops for a 2nd opinion
You wouldnt get major surgery on 1 docs advice~ treat the TL the same way!!
No doubt it needs something- but WHAT is the big question
We could remove you stomach Sir/Maam-
or just tell you to stay off the donuts~

Which after having replaced the ball joints alone once in my car is the only way i would do it. The rubber bushings in the lower and upper arm wear out and cause some play. I wouldnt replace just the ball joints myself. I would replace the whole arm. Especially those with older cars and higher mileage.

Oh. I didn't know the ball joint is on the lower arm. In that case it's much easier. Just swap in new lower arms or get a machine shop to press in new ball joints and bushings.
