Low idle and stalling

Has anyone else had this issue. It does not happen all of the time. What happens is when I am at a stop light or in traffic, the RPM's drop below 500 and the car feels like it wants to stall, in fact it did once. Also when it is doing this there seems to be a vibration in the floor and a surge in the AC fan. I get no Chk engine lights, only the D5 light dims. I am taking it in on Monday to have it look at I am hopping there is a code in the computer that will help them track the problem down.

If anyone has any ideas what could be causing this please let me know.

I have a 03 type S with about 26,000 miles.

Thanks
Jack

I had that problem in my 99 tl. It was from the idle control valve. My mechanic got the code off of his code reader and diagnosed the problem in about 5 minutes. He changed the part and it was fixed.

yeah, the idle control thing, and i think for some it's the O2 sensor. I also know for a fact that if your battery is disconnected, low revvs at idle will happen for a while until the computer learns new codes.

I had similar problem on my 00TL except mine triggered engine check light. It was cylider misfire. Performed trouble shooting for misfire codes and found lean fuel conditioin after engine warm-up. The dealer replaced the Fuel Pressure Regulator and PCM under warranty. There's technical service bulletin.

I had the same issue with my 2002 TLS same mileage as yours. The dealer replaced the EAC valve part #16022P8AA03.... on occasion... when it's very wet outside... the RPM will run lower...

Hope this helps!

For starters you might want to try and clean the throttlebody and plate. Then if that's not it then take it to the dealer.

Well after a number of trips to the dealer and them keeping my car for a week with no luck in duplicating the low idle issue. The tech finally decided to change the IAC valve. I guess he got tired of seeing me every other day. The low idle and stalling out seems to have gone away, but time will tell.

Yes P-Town. I was actually working with two Shannon and Diana. It was actually the Service Manager (Brent) that would not replace the IAC valve until it duplicated. The service reps wanted to help but there hands were tied by the manager. The Tech had a hunch that it was the IAC but the computer was not showing any codes so the Service Manager would not do anything. I have had good service other wise from this dealer with the exception of a damaged rim which they replaced with out any hassle.

Oh man. I hate that service manager. I was talking to one of the techs about that service manager. I told him that guy has a bad attitude and does not respect the customers at all. The tech told me the manager is actually pretty cool, but was having a bad day. The tech agreed with the issues I was having with the car. That really pisses me off.

The service manager does not respect his customers. I have a lot more knowledge about cars than I let them know about. I can't say "this is exactly what's wrong with the car" because that would be a slap in the face. I even told this to the tech and he agreed. Said he had the same problem with his HOnda at the honda dealer. These guys need to give customers the benefit of the doubt about their knowledge. Granted there are a lot of idiots out there. sorry about the rave in your post. I actually started my rave in another post already.

I agree. If you can speak to the Tech's directly they are pretty cool, when they finally replaced the IAC it was done in less than 1 hour at 4 in the afternoon without an appt.

The problem is this. The Advisors/Manager it's a "game" vs. the customers. The tech's don't care. They just want to solve the problem and never see you again as far as they're concerned. What's worse is that if the item is replaced on recommendation of the tech, the dealer gets paid from the factory anyhow. Vs. wasting the time of the tech, the advisor, and the customer. So frustrating. ARGH!

How much does the IAC valve cost? Anyone have the part number and/or installation instructions? I've had this problem for 4 years and I probably complained 10 times but it was never fixed. Eventually, I stopped caring. I would like to get this resolved if I can fix it myself though.

Thanks
Rosh

My 2000 TL-p has exactly the same thing. You can clean the IAC valve yourself with a tooth brush and it will be okay. My car is now running fine without that problem anymore.
