I always thought my low beams sucked, I was even cursing HID's until I went to change my bulbs today. Someone had gutted my headlight system. No ballasts, no HID's. Instead someone had rigged some H7 bulbs in there (they don't fit good, either). I'm SO pissed. Had to have been some cheapskate who didn't want to replace a bad bulb or ballast and instead half-assed (not even half) everything. Sorry -- just had to rant.

I've owned the car for about 1 year. There's a lot of things I'm finding that are all screwed up. The lamp socket for the high beams is gone on both sides as well, just wires sticking-up in the bottom of the light bulb.
I recently found out from Acura that the trans was replaced just 1,000 miles before I bought it, so I guess that I have one of the improved transmissions. It was owned by a used car salesman so I guess I should've expected the cheap fix on the headlights .
The HID kit is probably what I'll do -- if it'll work. Either that or I could just buy all of the parts from the dealer and fix it OEM. But I have no clue what parts I'd have to buy.

how did you buy a car, without looking a it first? inspection top to bottom especially from someone who scams ppl fro a living haha. used car sales men are the biggest scamers.

Believe or not, you're not the first one to report this scam. Same thing to another guy last year I think (actually he lived with for along time before he finally discovered what had happened). Buyer beware I guess.

I don't think you're an ass at all. I've never owned a car with HID's and these lights do look very different than any headlights I've seen. They're worse. I just didn't know why people raved about HID's when my experience indicated otherwise. Now I know why. Yep, and I take full responsibility for not closely looking at the back of the headlight assemblies before I bought the car (which I did get a good deal on) .

Gotcha. Well I don't know how they got H7s to fit, is it plugged into a base or are the wires just stuck into the bulb like your highbeams? Hopefully the bulb seat is not altered or damaged. A full HID set-up includes the ballast, igniter and bulb. DON'T buy them at the dealership, they will overcharge like a mofo.

Whatever OEM harness there was has been cut off and the wires are hooked to the H7's with crimp-on spade connectors. So just order an HID kit from a vendor online? Do I need to specify that I need them to fit a D2R bulb, because I see a lot of kits that come with D2S's. Will they work in our housings (I think the housing is still OK)? Oh, and the H7 doesn't fit good, the wire clip does hold it in the housing, but it's a little cocked to one side.

this makes me wonder if i have real HID's or not. what are some telltale characteristics of HID's? mine looks white compared to the yellow of halogens. they turn on blue but fade to white. they are not overly bright but i wouldn't call them dim either.

HID's POP on and then dim a bit while they warm up, then gain brightness back over the next 3-10 seconds blue and then (if oem) shift into the white/yellow color (if you are wathing the beam on a wall or something, that is what you'll see.)
When you turn them off, they are OFF. No cooling down of filament, therefore instantly off.
Easy way to tell would be to run them with high beams or driving lights, turn of car leaving lights on, shut door, walk to front and compare how the primary lights turn off in comparison to the secondary set you have running. Primary (HIDs) will do as described above, secondary set you will notice the filament cooling down (light will still be emitted fading down to nothing).
