My car is making a loud humming sound and it usually gets louder when I turn the steering wheel. any diagnosis?

check you power steering reservoir level. If it is dark, try to suck the fluid from reservoir out and refill with the new fluid, and see if that help. with the car in parking, does it make noise when you try to turn the wheel left and right or revving it ?

I would first check to see if power steering pump is low on fluid.

I would think that it would be the power steering pump going, but I'm not sure. I've never had it happen to me.

Check to see if your power steering fluid is low. When its low and you turn the wheel, it makes that nasty humming sound. Just get some powering steering fluid for your car and fill it back up. That should eliminate the nasty sound. I did the same and have no problems now.

over the weekend i put some power steering fluid because I saw that it was definitely low, but the noise didn't stop immediately, so i figured it needed some time, but maybe about an hour later the noise still remained and the power steering fluid had leaked out onto the ground....so at this point it could be what?? the power steering pump maybe???

If what you poured in leaked out, you need to find where its leaking from. Fill it back up, start the car and have someone turn the wheel to the right and left (a bunch of times) while you look for leaking. You need to find out where its leaking from we dont know. It could be many things from a rubber hose to the pump to the PS rack.

Is there a DIY to replace a front wheel bearing? I cannot seem to find one.

Thanks,

James
