Losing A/C under full throttle acceleration

Losing A/C under full throttle acceleration

Well it's been a week of record-breaking heat here in South Texas.... and I've been noticing my A/C stops cooling under full throttle acceleration. It returns once the acceleration is finished and I reach my cruising speed. Any ideas?

Normal. It disengages the compressor when you stomp on the gas to free up some h.p.

ahhh no. there's no way that the car would do that. There simply could be a problem with the level of free-on in your car.

You may wanna get that checked out.

No, it's completely normal. Just call your service advisor and ask him. I freaked when I first bought the car when this happened but it is all good. I just can't remember the "technical" why...

That's been a normal feature in every call I ever owned. Even in a piece of crap '84 mercury topaz.

It's a feature...

I guess if it's really that hot, you need to slow down to keep cool...

that would explain why my A/C compressor always initiates at a stop light. If you drive the car hard before, then essentially the A/C compressor will turn off to give you more power.

As soon as the car senses that you no longer need that power, such as at a stoplight or stop sign, it turns the compressor back on, creating a slight jerk forward.

So our questions have now been answered!!!

This is what I get out of this thread:

It is more efficient to WOT it when you have your A/C on than to accelerate normally :wow:

This is what I get out of this thread:

What I get out of this is that it doesn't matter if your A/C is on when you're pushin' the gas pedal to the floor!

I don't think it's any more efficient though...

Some cars not only disengage the A/C compressor to free up HP, but also to prevent compressor damage.
what you are experiening is perfectly normal. My question is how much are you flooring it that you would actually notice this?!

All the time!!!

Just kidding, I dunno...If I REALLY get on it (floored), it gets toasty, normal hard acceleration stays frosty...

I live in South Texas. The TL A/C is barely adequate to keep the car comfortable when it is sunny, hot and humid outside. (Also, my car is FBP/E, so that doesn't help matters either). So, I am very susceptible to noticing *any* lapse in cooling, even if it's for only a few seconds.

Ahh, but the question is how much lag is there between WOT and the compressor shutting off? Is it instant, or is there a delay (and how long?) until the system "gets" that you need all available power going to the engine?
