Looking for Pulleys, is expensive always better?

I'm thinking about buying some lightweight pulleys this summer and ive seen a few different ones on different sites. There seems to be a pretty big price gap and im wondering if the expensive ones are significantly better. I have a pretty tight budget at the moment so if I can go with the cheap ones and still get reliable performance gains that would be great. If anyone has gotten any of these or knows about them I would appreciate any input. Thanks!

The only pulley that is going to make a difference in performance is the crank pulley. Go for XLR8 for reliable and proven power.

for some reason I can't seem to find just the crank pulley on their website. They sell only as a set or just the alternator pulley..

nevermind I got it off of heeltoe. Still pretty expensive. They want $210+ shipping where as the other set is less than that for the entire set... is there another brand that is still good but less money?

If you are on a budget, get the cheapest one you can. The accessory pulleys (alternator and power steering) are just for show.

The crank pulley is the only one that will have performance results. As far as price and brand, just get the cheapest. They will all work great, and many members have been using the cheap eBay pulleys for years.

UR will be the best quality and they're slightly lighter than the others, but nothing worth the crazy price difference.

Nah, I don't think it could be measurable. I compared all the pulleys when I put in my UR set. The PS and Alt pulleys were already pretty light, so I'd guess less than 2hp. Can't even measure that on a regular dyno.

IIRC Fatty for thousands and thousands of miles, and a bunch of users on the CL side. Not one failure.

No they are smaller in diameter than stock. Plus you need to get shorter belts. If you don't have a big audio system, that is actually the cheapest/best value pulley you can get. You can get the OBX underdrive pulley on ebay and the seller will even tell you what belts you need. Whole package is under 100 bucks shipped.

I'm actually considering this since I already have the ps and alt pulley
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Acura-CL-TL-Inc-Type-S-97-02-Under-Drive-Underdrive-Pulley-Pulleys-Polished-UD-/390442737868?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5ae83360cc&vxp=mtr
Anyone know the belt size needed in order for this to work?

I have the e-bay pulley. It does exactly what you want it to do. I will be looking for a UR eventually because I am running into some charging systems issues. I do have an optima red top, so i'm not worried persay. I would just like to get the stock sized UR to be on the safe side. However I have NO major gripes with the e-bay pulley.

So in reality, the best bang for your buck in performance.... Is an ebay ud pulley.... My life has been a lie.
Thanks for clarifying NBP.

Haha definitely the best bang for your buck but definitely do some more research into the possible issues that you may run into with a UD pulley before you pull the trigger.

Bang.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/140778766038...84.m1497.l2649

Will be doing my timing belt soon in the next month or so. This completes my set, makes me feel better that I got the p/s and alt pulley from excelerate performance when they had that moving sale.

Btw... if there is an underdrive crank pulley, why aren't there underdrive power steering or alternator pulleys for the 2g tl? Or do I just not know about them?

Because it would make sense to underdrive all the pulleys, that way the ratio stays the same.

Understand what now

And yes, i have a cheap ebay pulley. While it works and i have had zero issues with it in 300k or so, if you have the money i would go with the Excelerate UR pulley. Its better manufacturing and lighter.

You get what you pay for. Our XLR8 lightweight crank pulley is made by UR, been revised a number of times to further reduce weight, is CNC machined and 0 gram balanced. We actually dispose of pulleys that don't meet our standards. Because this is a very important part it's very important to have stringent standards to go buy.

http://store.excelerateperformance.c.../i-291888.aspx

I also just created a coupon for anyone who wants to purchase this pulley for $215 instead of $230. Use promo code AZPULLEY

I got the UR light weight PS, alt and underdrive crank pulleys about two and a half years ago. No problems yet with gates belts. Got them off ebay in factory packaging from a guy who totaled his car before he had a chance to install them. Under $200 with shipping. Was my first mod, service manual had perfect guide for replacing pulleys. definitely a noticeable difference in the powerband, not as much as the headers though. The $215 coupon xlr8 just posted looks like a steal.

Also, mine are black. Some people have silver ones. I don't know what's up with that. Common knowledge that black is the sleeckest and most aerodynamic of all colors.

Thus resulting in the continuous mystery for me lol. I thought it was due to your sn because fstty is relatively close to fatty.
