i had the same problem and honestly all the ballast will be over $100 if u get oem. i just upgraded mine to aftermarket for $200 and now im able to change to any D2R bulb.

i just feel for a used oem ballast to cost so much u might as well go aftermarket.

www.hidextra.com has a 59$ kit with 2 new ballast- 2 capacitor/ignitors built into the wire from ballast to bulb,,and 2 good quality bulbs--at wholesale importer prices to us!!
thats all you need,,dont need the relay or cancellor thing for us

diy is simpler than it sounds- if you changed bulbs you can do all this,
ck our `Official diy list`, see 3rd item down the main gen2 list--where you are now

have to cut 2 wires and attach connectors, or splice the wires/solder together the old power leads- to the new ballast

the problem is often caused by moisture in the headlight assembly- gets past the lens seal
need to address that too, it kills the electrical parts that happen to sit right below its drain hole!!

Welcome to the forum!

dealer wants $1200 not 100,,wouldnt that be a nice typo in your favor!!

bonus with the kit is the abilty remote mount the ballast,
away from water, mine are on the frame rail side, and the parts are water-proofed--unlike the OE parts

when i said $100 i was talking about used ones on ebay. i did not install mine, a shop did and for everything i was charged $200.

with our KNOWN water issues from leaking lens seal
(there are pics on here of the actual rust vs circuit damage inside ballast)
IN my opinion:
its crazy to install a used or even new OE part,,when you can get waterproof stuff, made to modern specs- not 10 -20 year old design and parts of the era--
When we have access to several top quality sellers, who all give us a good discount!

I went with hidextra.com based on others positive comments, and price for sure!
totally happy with the setup on my 01
actually only installed pass side parts from the kit, (which cured the on off prob at the time) to compare kaixen 6k on stock setup with hid parts and 5k bulb on that side

Hands down the 5k wins for being able to see stuff on the road- especially in dark dark darkness,,WAY more white light on the road--the 6 has a lot more blue than you think!

the 6k does a better job at picking up road lane marking lines, semi truck reflecto stripes and freeway exit signs= they lit up half a mile away!!
the 5s do that, but not as much

Now the left side is doing the on off thing, so its definetly time to put her back on ramps and complete the job
loyal readers have seen this statement for a few months~ but really... this time...

I'm jammed for time right now but if you search my name, we found a great source here in San Diego. Ballasts and HID bulbs at killer prices, lots of input that they are working fine. Mine are on over a year, others posted much longer. Like $55 for two ballasts, not 55 each! With the new HIDs the headlights are cranking.
