Loaner car from a dealer?

Hey guys,

I'm planning to take my car into service for some things that are covered under warranty. I have a feeling that to correct these things, it will take a few days. My question is if Acura is responsible in providing me with a loaner car that is equivalent to my car, meaning a TL? What has your experience been like at the acura dealership? Did they provide you with a TL or any kind of loaner car for free if your car has a manufactures defect? I don't feel like driving a neon or cavalier as a loaner. Please give me some input on this.

Thanks

when i went, i had a choice of loaner car.... basically between a TL and a RSX. The thing is they only let u get one of thier cars, if u are over 21, so i had to use my brother's ID....

Acura is not responsible for loaning you a car, it's the dealership that chooses to do this. Will you get a loaner equal to your TL? That's up to the dealer too. My dealer does give loaners but they're always these very well used 2000 Integra four doors.

Ya with 3 tranny replacements im very knowledgable on loaners. Loaners usually are tlp's or rsx's but you need to schedule an appointment to make sure you can get one.
my small local dealer does 3-4 trannies a week so prepare to wait, or drive a neon rental

mine

will provide a loaner upon request - if you ask for one and they schedule you day(s) it is available - usually for one day, if it is going to be longer (like when they repaint my car for the bad acid rain damage) then mine will give me a used car to drive.

Well ... I took in my TLS twice to the dealer and I got a loaner both of the times. First time was the moon roof rattling and the second time was the rotors fix. I made appointment in advance and told them I would need a loaner.

My dealer is not required to give me one but they offer everytime. They want to make sure that you give them a good survery. I always get an RSX, I always tell them I don't want a TL-P.

It usually depends what kind of loaner they have at the time of drop off.......yeah, that's what they say. "I only have RSX now. If you don't like it, I can hook you up with enterprise/heartz."

Loaner cars are up to the dealer's own discretion, since each is owned independantly and NOT owned by American Honda. When AH reimburses the dealership for the warranty work, the cost of a loaner car is NOT covered, so basically the dealer eats the cost of loaning you a car.

That being said, *most* Acura dealerships, realizing that other upscale brands offer this service, will give loaner cars, provided that (a) the repair is expected to take more than a couple hours and (b) you call in advance for an appointment. Most dealers usually have a limited number of loaners and once they're gone for the day, you're SOL. Call ahead and you shouldn't have a problem getting a loaner. If you just stop by and they say, leave it and we'll take a look at it, you're probably not going to get a loaner.

Some dealers have Acura "fleet cars" that are used specifically as loaners, and if you are get there early enough you can usually pick which loaner you want. As the day goes on, the loaners are out and you have less to choose from (or none at all). Now some dealers don't have fleet cars and have to subcontract the service--either to another dealer that does or a rental car company. That's why sometimes customers get Enterprise Rent-A-Car vehicles for loaners, or maybe a loaner from another brand dealership that is owned by the same owner (say the owner of the Acura dealership owns a Toyota dealership also, right next door--you might get a Toyota Camry or the like).

The most important thing is you have a loaner. Who cares if it is a Kia Sephia--it gets you from point A to point B while your car is in for service. Now if your car is going to be in the shop for an extended stay (i.e. transmission replacement) then you may want to haggle for a more upscale loaner.

My dealer has an Enterprise car rental office right in the dealership. They have a small fleet of Acura loaners, though, and lent me an '03 TL-P when I came in for my 30k service earlier this month. Made my whole day! Especially when my last loaner was a big a$$ GMC Sonoma truck. Ewww, what a floaty ride compared to my TL.

ive always had to call ahead of time to get a loaner. ive gotten an rsx a couple times and a 4 door teg. if you want a car equivalent to yours i think you need to request it. i didnt mind driving the rsx. its pretty quick, and it was different!

I think it also depends on how much cars each dealership sells... I mean... if they kick a$$ every month in terms of car sales, then you would think they can afford to provide better cars to loan out. Mission Viejo (near where I live) lend me a piece of crap beat up Integra and I had to ask for it in advance (it was to replace the tranny), but when I took it into Thomas Acura (near my parents' house) for a 30K tune up, some guy got to take a TSX out for a day!!! It was brand spankin' new! I asked the guy how he like it... and he said it was weak comparing to his (modded) RSX-S, but it was more luxsury inside.

But like someone already mentioned... they only have so many cars to lend out everyday... so you should call ahead and request for one as early as possible.
