Life span of 2nd gen replacement tranny

I was wondering if anyone has heard about the life span of the 2nd gen replacement trannys.

I had my original tranny replaced in February 2006 @ 72k. I now have 84k and no signs of this tranny going bad , so far.

When I got my replacement tranny in February, they told me that I was getting the second generation of replacements and this one should not have the same clutch pack problem that the original ones have.

Has anyone had any issues with the new 2nd gen trannys?

Just wondering if i'll need to trade it in before I loose my warranty @ 100k.

It seems like the jury is still out on the reliability of the latest replacement transmissions.

"So far, so good" seems to be the most common assessment.

Read the "Tranny Failure Thread" for some reports on the replacement transmissions:

We dont know about the latedt revisions, but so far they seem to be working as we havent had failures of them, its still fairly early, but normally we should have been seeing some by now. NO one can answer this cause its too early

february 2005. the mean time to failure is around 45k miles. the 2/05 revision has had no reported failures though, but like fsttyms said, it's still early. i'm still keeping my fingers crossed on the dr. evil tranny but no one has been talking about the 5 speed and how it's holding up. i only hear about the 4sp, which does us no good.

Yes, it's still early. Since most people drive less than 20,000 miles a year, it may be a year or two before people reach 45,000 miles on the latest revision.

It may be early, but we should have been seeing some by now. I mean for the longest time we would see replacements dying leaving the parking lot or 3-10 k later, and its been over a year now with out any.. Hopefully its a good sign

yeah that's true. there were ALOT of infant mortalities from these trannies. i have the pre-2/05 revision and i'm praying it either takes a crap before my warranty is up or that the dr. evil 5AT bears fruit and i can get one later on. i've got 45k on my second tranny now and it only drives so-so, although it doesn't seem to be near a failure yet.

Mine 1st tranny went out around 45K miles. I'm on my 2nd one now and it was great at first, now starting to get a hesitation while driving downhill or sometimes when just driving in a straight line less than 5 minutes. It immediately goes away and doesn't always do it.

Now in the city, I use D4 and go to D5 if I will have open highway or above 50mph for a long time. Seemed to stop the problem.....we'll see...sigh

My 2003tls died @ 25k, now I'm @ 64k on the 2nd tranny, with a partial christmas tree, but no signs of tranny problems. my wifes 2000tl has 62k on her without having any tranny problems. We need hers to die prior to 100k. If she gets to 90k with still no problems, we will trade rides for the last 10k, I'll get her to blow up.

Had my first tranny die at 39k miles in June 2004 and dealer replaced it. The car just turned 81k miles this month and the trans seems to be holding. I did have some hesitation issues but had my trans fluid flushed/filled and the problem hasn't happened again yet. I'm hoping if it does go it happens in the next 20k miles.

lets see tho, do you think that me driving in D4, and shifting to D5 after like 60-65 would help prevent tranny failure?? ive been doing this since i got mine

I will NEVER post a bragging comment again! It only comes back around to slap you in the back of the head!

I have an 03 TL-S and mine was replaced at 40,000, the second one has 42,000 on it. Since I bought the extended warrenty (100,000 miles) I am going to have it checked out at around 95,000 just to be safe and then just hope for the best.

Not really since mine ran fine for the first 137k!!! Replacement tranny has run flawlessly for the first 500 miles, only 136,500 more to go!

Of course, you have the gererally more reliable four speed transmission used in the 1999 TLs. And hey, you may even make it further than 137,000 miles. The original transmission in my 1999 TL made to about 173,000 miles.

I change out my tranny when i had 60K just cause Acura said i should do it. Well i have two set of gauge 1 TL-p an 1 Type S. When i bought my Type S guages it reading 30K. Now that i look at both my gauges it read 110K on TL-P and 100 on TL-S. So i can say my tranny still feel strong as the day they change it out. If you think about my TL really have over 180K now with no problem with the 2nd tranny.

The original had 96K when it got the oil jet, then was replaced at 98K when it started acting a little strange. Now I have 131k with only rare spots of strange behavior.
