Cool trunk light cold cathode

hey folks i did a quicky since i have navigation it didnt work out the way i saw it in my head but ill clean it up in the morning this took me about ten fifteen mins.......

box the lights came in

what it says in on the box

what it came with in the box

what you need out of the box

junk u can do whatever with

this is what the oem looks like the duct take was something i did last week trying to see what rattled in my trunk never took it off eh...

before oem light

the plug your going to tap in to add the cathode lighting its from the oem light

its sloppy i used my teeth to lazy to grab the cutters (use teeth at your own risk) the white wire with the blue stripe is the plus + other is minus -

tap the plus and minus from the light to those in the pic

walla 12to the cathodes i used the double sided velcro that came with it will work if you clean the area im going to end up useing zip ties in the morning when i place them in the place i want them,,,

other light

this is what it looks like at mid dusk

mid dusk

took these at 11pm trunk open no flash

#2

#3 no flash

oem light and the cathodes

The trunk is dirty i know
right up is just a quicky just to give everyone an idea the night and day difference
between the stock light and a ten dollar mod
enjoy if you have any questions just ask

Thanks so much for all the info and the pictures. Make sure you brush your teeth before you go to bed LOL.
I'll be ordering myself a set today!!! BTW... did those cables you didn't use look like the ones for power inside your PC?
Who knows the max current draw for the trunk light? I was wondering the same thing about overloading that part of the electrical network.

id brush my teeth regardless lol. But i think it will be fine i had the trunk open this morning for almost an hour didnt kill that battery, and mine is getting weak... and with the cathodes and stock trunk light on, the stock wiring didnt even get warm. im thinking about pushing my navigation unit back a little some how so i can make the light spread even. like this

The coolest thing about these lights thos does not matter how you have them strapped in left to right like this - -
or up and down in your trunk ! ! even at an angle \ \ they still light up the whole trunk

I like I like I like!!! I should be getting mine any time this week. If possible, could you take a picture of how you mounted the light? I was just going to use the velcro stuff on the white frame...

Installing was really really easy. Took me about 10 minutes. I used zip ties to mount the tubes (will post pics later) and I used midway wire connectors like so:

I got mine done tonight. I haven't taken any pictures 'cause I had to tend to family stuff, but I'll post some tomorrow night. It was fairly easy to install; however, I ended up using a soldering iron to get proper contacts instead of the quick snap on connectors. The velcro thingies seem to work. We'll see how much they can take w/o making too much noise. I did hide the inverter inside the pocket where the light normally goes as well as the wires. While I was doing that, I grabbed the inverter and touched one of the 680V terminals with my ring finger... I felt the buzz and could smell the burnt skin
I wasn't able to get even light in my trunk due to the navigation, but it's still better than no light (which is what I had LOL).
Thanks for all the help, guys!

However, I had to put one of the lights like this because of the NAVI:

So, it's darker on that side:

the reason his first pic (vetalik) was dimmer is because ccfls take a lil while (10 secs) to warm up so its not going to be instant bright like leds but it gets the job done especially if your packing or unpacking.

thats a deal i think

i got 9 sets(18 cathode tubes) for $64 shipped

should come in soon

and damnitjim, i bet that stock light set up will run you like $20, its not worth it

go on ebay and type "white cathode" there should be a seller selling them around $7 a pair

good luck, but as for the wiring, iono where you would tap into.

Did you guys just use the velcro thingies that came with them? I used those and to my surprise, my lights were hanging by the wire. I've tried putting them back up but they won't stick anymore. Any recommendations on what to use?

This is sooo annoying!!! I finally got the lights put in, but now sometimes when I open the trunk, the lights don't come on. I saw this problem before I installed the lights, but I thought it had gone away. What kind of sensors do our trunks have? Something funny is that if I try to close the trunk without letting it lock, the light comes one. Seems that there is something loose...
Any ideas, guys?
